This is the natural cycle. Big sites get greedy and kill off the user base for a payout and we go to the next one. The fact reddit kept alive for so long is surprising but it take a lot for people to bother moving.
I don't know how many mods I got at this point, but I know it's both too many and never enough. I got mods for mods and mods to better handle my long load time due to mods.
Best part of the community is seeing how different everyones game is and yet we all are still making children into hats or ammo.
Have you tried Factorio? You build a Factory with Oxygen Not Included levels of complexity. Seems like it would be a fit for you.
