It's clean, intuitive UI is almost a clone of IG. They've then just reversed the primary content from photos to text, & strapped it with Twitter-like features (reposts, quote reposts etc.)
Once hashtags (& maybe trends) get added, we will get a honeymoon phase, before it all gets bloated TF. Give it a few months and we will have Threads Stories, THCAST for long-form audio/podcasts (with AI transcription), e-commerce Thread Shops...
Civitai has a bunch of Lora's that might help with crispness? My favourites are Denoise & AddDetail. I'd also use a popular SD1.5 model like Deliberate (until sdxl is released). I always do highres fix, maybe scale 2x from 512 on a low denoise & see what you think.
There's also an after detailer extension I use for doing extra processing passes on hands/face etc.
It wouldn't be attached to the credit card, just tied to the Google account. They don't care about the address, which is why you can use a generator to get E.g -

Enter card details.
Enter a fake billing address, any random address generator will do, as long as it’s from the correct region.
Then select Try it Free.
Navigate to YouTube, press YouTube Premium, and double-check that everything is in the right currency.
Enter the same credit card and address information you used for creating the new Google Account.
Click Buy 👍
You can then add your main Google account as a family member.👍

I agree, Facebook is a more comprehensive social nightmare, threads is currently like a streamlined Instagram but into text posts. Data-whoring aside
I've been using DDG as my default search as it works with ExpressVPN, Google often requires captcha or sign in.
The dev is bringing in a subscription fee to Relay. Not sure what the pricing will be though
