For example, a person can be black which is considered inferior by most

Sorry buddy, you lost me in the first paragraph.

Your suggestion is to ignore all of the injustice in the world and fix the economic disparity? As if racism, sexism and homophobia haven’t influenced that disparity from day one.

You are rich, by admission, so I understand that you assume everything is about money and manipulating people, but if the Left’s sole aim is to manipulate people into voting for them, we have that party already, and they suck at it.

Why can’t we strive for equality in all forms?

Implying that the “childrens” websites of the early 00’s weren’t fraught with sexual innuendo and swearing, and home to predators of all kinds. Neopets, Club Penguin, Habbo, RuneScape, IMVU. I don’t think this poster is remembering them the way that they were.

I will say that growing up with these sites, and exposure to some of these things, I have become a savvier citizen of the internet. I understand wanting to protect kids, but they have to get out there on the real Internet someday, and losing all your rare painted neopets to a scammer makes you real unlikely to give your details to someone claiming to be your bank.

This one I’m not such a fan of. The number of times I’ve found an interesting bulletin board community, and been told I had to wait 48 hours before I could comment once on the introductions board, before waiting another 24 hours to comment once per day on another small set of allowed forums, but only if my introductory comment was approved by the moderation team….

Yeah, the alternative is a bot and troll riddled mess of a site like reddit, but at least I can usually ask for the source of that furry scat porn without being instantly banned for speaking out of turn to the ruling elite of the forum.

I feel like i am going to watch the whole series, though I may wait for a few more episodes to release. It is a fun take on the world that somehow has managed to maintain the claustrophobia of the original films while being set on earth. I assume the scope will expand as the series progresses.

The heavy Disney influence (direct clips from Peter Pan and Ice Age) is a bit off-putting, and makes the series feel a bit confused. We are in a futuristic world that is owned by 6 major companies, we have space flight, synthetic humans, and now consciousness transplants, yet our biggest cultural touchstones are a 1953 animated film, and the fourth ice age movie? Do kids today watch either of those films?

My other concern is that the series is going to have to keep explaining how our cast aren’t being slaughtered by the xenomorph. In a film, Ripley only has to survive for 2 hours. An 8 ep series is a bigger ask. Hermit has already run into the xeno three times in two episodes, and each time the killing machine who was all blades and teeth just second before switches to ‘throw the protagonist gently across the room’. Even the conclusion of E02 sees him pushed off a ledge where any lesser character would have a bladed tail through their chest.

I am giving the series the benefit of the doubt that these two eps are just set-up, and will give the rest of the series a chance. Despite my concerns, I did enjoy the characters and their relationships, and the story being set up seems like classic Alien storytelling.

What does this even mean? Which goalpost has moved? I’m not sure you actually know what that means.

I would not call ‘being a decent human’ coddling. This kind of bullying happens a lot, and it feels okay because the target of our hate is a bigoted pos. “Mitch McConnell looks like the Pale Man fucked a Turtle”; “Donald Trump stands like the front half of a centaur and wears a hair piece”; “MTG looks like a butch Neanderthal”. I have heard all of these jabs being made at asshole politicians, and they really say nothing except that the insulter believes that making fun of a persons appearance is okay.

Is wearing a hairpiece something that should be mocked? Why? Is it peak comedy when a man is elderly? If a woman does not fit into specific gender norms, is calling her a man okay? Because when we do this online it is guaranteed that the target of our jokes will never see them, but someone else might. A young girl with more slightly hair on her forearms than her friends. A man who is starting to bald. A woman who is aging naturally. And what they are being told is that should be ashamed. Because the insults have nothing to do with the actions that those bigots have made, or the things that they say. They only care about looks, and I think we can be more inventive than that.

This is a poor take. This woman looks like any number of Americans who don’t believe bigoted shit.

Saying that being an evil bitch makes you ugly is offensive to people who have no control over their appearance.

It also walks a line very close to saying that the way a person looks defines their character, as if you could define a man by the colour of their skin.

I like the concept. I like the characters so far. I think it needs to be approached with a sense of fun that Prometheus and its ilk have squeezed out of the series. Why can’t my show with themes on the musing of the soul also include kids in super-robot bodies fighting aliens with homemade katanas?

What is irking me is that the Xenomorph is obviously pausing to check the cast list on imdb before it kills people. It tore apart the cockpit door to get to Morrow early on, but later it slowly approached him, snarling, before getting distracted by extras off screen which it murdered without hesitation. Hermit has met the Xeno on three seperate occasions in two episodes, and it takes me out of the show when the kill-machine switches from face-fucking soldiers with its toothy tongue and slicing people in half, to throwing them safely across the room or pushing them off a cliff to clearly survive into the next episode.

I don’t know how I feel about the repeated inclusion of Disney licences properties as plot points. The Peter Pan analogy was pretty on the nose before they just straight up played scenes from the animated film. And having Sid the Sloth ominously superimposed over an emotional scene sent me.

I will keep watching, because I feel like there could be some interesting developments (what if they SOMA’d the kids?). I don’t know if I am going to religiously wait for each episode, or let a few come out before I catch up.

There is apparently an action scene in which ice cube needs a thumb drive, so orders one via Amazon drone delivery. The drone goes down in all the chaos, and our characters have to barter with the homeless man who found the downed drone by offering him Amazon gift cards. The man is a conspiracy nut who thinks the government is tracking him, but a $1000 Amazon gift cards convinces him to risk his life for the characters.

So yes, it is worse than Borderlands.

“He’s not that bad, he’s only actively choosing to be a nazi in order to reach his own selfish goals”

I would argue this would make him worse than he seems.

Musk isn’t taking you to mars with him, no matter how much you try to fellate his ego.

I see the counterargument that “I only use gay as an insult because that’s what would offend them. I’m not homophobic, I just say homophobic things to offend homophobes.”

Nevermind the young men and women out there who are being told that their identity is just ammunition to bully people, we got to be mean to someone on the internet!
