If you want to stop the homeless problem, access to the internet is definitely a step in the right direction as it provides them access to resources on how to lift themselves out of it. It stands to reason then that turning the wi-fi off is contributing to the problem, not helping it.

Not only do you have a group of veterans to ask your newb questions to, but lots of them have curated FAQs and starter guides to get you rolling. Reddit honestly improved my life in many ways for this reason.
I'm right there with you on min-maxing. If they built the game in a way that I have to research a certain way to play to have a good time, then the developers don't know a damn thing about balance and difficulty design.
