Sounds a lot like Roald Dahls story Esio Trot. Protagonist makes downstairs neighbors tortoise "grow" with a magical spell (tortoise backwards, replacing it with other tortoise) to win her heart. In the end, tortoise is too big so he "shrinks" it again so it'll fit back into her house.
I think people are starting to become a lot more aware of what advantages are given up by changing the status quo. Not just w.r.t. China, but with a lot of American products, such as cloud, payment providers, operating systems, document processors etc.
Still, this can be abused in the short term on the stock market, so I doubt things will change much.
It talks about DUV (deep ultra violet), last generation, not EUV (extreme ultra violet). So China is now a competitor on part of ASML's market where they held about 95% market share, not on their 100% top of the line models that can go even more detailed.
Since ASML DUV line has been around longer they worked on increasing stability and performance, so likely they won't be outperformed globally, yet. But China has extra incentive not to buy Dutch since they won't sell them EUV. This will have a noticable effect on their revenue, but it's speculation as to how much revenue they will loose unless China mandates their own product.
Also, ASML is increasing DUV capabilities beyond the laser input size + lenses with a bubble of water which changes the refractory index which lays on top of the wafer, no idea if that is in the Chinese products. If it isn't we are basically talking about the 4th gen machine. It's DUV, DUV + water, EUV (needing mirrors since lenses now absorb this light), EUV with increased height requirements for the clean rooms).
Very small nipple at best. Using wolfram alpha it gave me: 0.85 cm / (8.849 km / 12742.018 km) ≈ 12 m for length of nipple / (height of tallest mountain / diameter of earth). Mount Everest is to the diameter of earth what the average nipple is to a chest with a depth of 12 meter (40+ feet).
So he would only need to sell 20 to 40 of the most expensive yacht he owns for a fab. Gabes yacht fleet is estimated from a quick search to be 6 yachts totalling 1 billion, which is 1/15th of the most quoted lower price for a new fab.
Edit: to be fair you could use ram made with DUV machines at 1 to 5 billion, which at the lower end would be all of Gabes boats. Likely this would yield 4 to 8 GB DIMMs.
Using existing LLMs functionality with fewer steps. You can have a chatbot in the side bar, no doubt keeping track of all your browsing habits to better assist you which incidentally builds a very valuable profile of the user companies would love to buy. Summarizing large texts so AI generated slop and search algorithm filler content can be filtered out more efficiently vs a decent chance at introducing errors. Rewording text so you can make it more simple, translated, adhering to your world view. All of this with minimal clicks, automatically done if possible.
Because they ask for location dependent help without mentioning where they are from in the non localized AskLemmy. Easier to assume and in the 1% case of not being right you might receive a reply with the actual country. Same as asking for it and waiting for a reply, but worse in 99% of the cases.
Correct, the "obsolete" PCs can't update to Windows 11. The Windows 11 update forces certain hardware support that a lot of devices don't have. The security this hardware provides is mainly in someone physically removing data from your PC. As such it's very business oriented but affects all versions of Windows 11.
Only because it is simulated? Pushing the same bike 800 times with the same force mechanically and measuring it doesn't seem to me to net any more applicable knowledge.
4chan will sue the UK trying to hold them responsible for UK law, in US court. Foreign judgement limiting freedom of speech. Seems to be in line with their strategy of not being an UK company so not paying fines: "Your laws don't apply to us. Hell, they aren't even constitutional!".
There's been years of memories build up and it's hard to be flexible with those links in the brain. But he should at least put in an effort.
Honest question: Have you had an open conversation with him or did you criticise and put him on the defensive? I hope you can find a habit trigger to flip in him that reframes the memory before voicing it. Like thinking it through with your sister actively in his mind. It's likely a subconscious thing that he needs help with.
I don't understand how this works out badly for the person using a debit card. You pay for the vehicle and if they try to make you pay more you ask for proof and if you don't get it you walk away.
Have the language in the current language setting and the target language native tongue so you would get
フランス語 / French
"Alphabetic" sorting would be difficult, so it wouldn't be perfect, but at least a lot more understandable. Still, just having a search option would fix that easily.
What you really don't understand is, AI making an original voice is a pipe dream. You can average out voices of many different people who all had their content stolen. Originality is outside of its training set.

Sounds more like the fee they directly use for lobbying to reduce oversight on ISPs.
More like pipe stems, no? As in the stems of pipes for smoking tobacco.
Also used: it's dog weather (het is hondenweer)

According to https://www.engineersedge.com/calculators/human_body_dimensions_typical_16424.htm the average chest depth is about 24 cm. Mount Everest is a nipple 1/50th of average size.

Or do they require a collateral fee when renting?
Or "keep your nose out of others business", "je neus uit andermans zaken houden"

Too lazy to meal prep you say?
