Are you gonna be buying a Steam machine?

No, but I was never the target audience and I wouldn't have bought one regardless of price. I'm currently using a laptop and if I ever want a stationary gaming machine again I'll just build one myself, I don't care for a console-like experience either so even SteamOS isn't a selling point for me.

So, do you think even at this price point Valve is taking a hit?

Nope. Pretty sure that they're at least breaking even on the hardware. It's a PC, they can't be sure of future game sales. You could use alternative stores, pirate everything, or not use it for gaming at all.

Fascism. That's the sigil of the Italian fascist party, and their paramilitary were known as the Blackshirts, hence the black.

If you're fine with a preset player character. That's a big difference, I never could get into any of the Witcher games because of it.

By contrast in games like Skyrim or BG3 I can come up with my own character with their own backstory, personality, motivations and, essentially, their own story (within the confines of what's in the game).

You shouldn't. But you should have the capability to fight a modern war in case you or your allies come under attack. Neither Russia nor America look all too friendly right now, having a capable defensive military seems less and less optional.

Also: if a child only refrains from doing something because they fear possible consequences they'll happily do it in situations where they don't have to be afraid of being found out. So if the only thing preventing your child from chewing on high voltage cables is the threat of violence your child will get themselves electrocuted once they're out of your eyesight. (Yes that's hyperbole, but you get the point.)

Most of the people who oppose the death penalty also want to improve prison conditions and minimise the amount of people sent to prison in the first place.

"Conditions in prison are bad" is an argument for improving living conditions for prisoners, not for murdering them.
