I use MXRoute which is inexpensive and run by someone who has the strong opinions of a wise grey beard. Also Black Friday/holiday sales can make the cost even more reasonable. Doesn’t have the suite of accessory products like some other options but it’s excellent for what it is.

Trinidad sour is a must try cocktail. Use a strong orgeat; I like Liber & Co. but I’m sure you can find others similar.

Thanks for sharing these and linking the MCP you’re using. I like the “subscribe” for notifications idea with a multi-person household and the total cycle logging. I’ve heard from others too that dashboards are a good use case but I haven’t tried yet myself.

My biggest Claude automation success was also washer/dryer. I have a stacked washer+dryer with power monitoring on the washer and a vibration sensor on the dryer (240V in US, annoying to get power monitoring without CT clamps in the breaker box). Washer vibrates the dryer sensor, etc. But finally got a logic flow where I can reliably get washer or dryer notifications using an automation to change a state machine and trigger notifications. Would have gotten frustrated sooner without Claude I reckon.

I mostly use this claude-homeassistant project. It uses a simple workflow (make pull, Claude code plan/make your changes, make push) and has some handy features like validation and backups.

However, I will say that most of the automations that Claude makes kinda suck. Hard to explain but I have to iterate a bunch of times to get what I’m actually after. Not the end of the world but it uses a lot of tokens to ultimately make a handful of small changes. I love technology and even enjoy using some LLM products but I’m frequently disappointed with the results haha.

I’d say good use cases would be entity management and debugging automation traces. Besides that, I’ve found the uses limited.

Would be interested to hear if you find other impactful uses.

I enjoyed this quote

Structural engineer Bob Greer said "I don't know of any building code in the world that would allow a 160-pound (73 kg) man to run up against a glass and withstand it.”

Damn I really hoped I would be inspired by one of these “plans.” I’ve never heard of Thurmond but he gets points for single-payer. All the others want to prop up a system that is more than 2x more costly for worse outcomes compared to our global peers. America has been staring at the solution for decades, yet we can’t muster the will and resources to get it fucking done.

I absolutely love these:

  • Clearer Thinking with Spencer Greenberg (behavioral psychology)
  • The Sloppy Boys (comedy cocktails)
  • The Bugle (comedy satire politics)
  • Danny Wallace’s Important Broadcast (comedy radio show)
  • Heavyweight (comedy mystery)
  • HomeAssistant podcast (smarthome tech HomeAssistant)
  • Self-Hosted (tech)
  • Maintenance Phase (comedy wellness)
  • Severance Podcast (tv show Severance)
  • Strong Songs (your favorite songs, explained)
  • All Consuming (comedy product reviews)

I get what you mean. I switched a couple months ago and still don’t really think I’m using it that well.

However, I do like Spaces a lot. Pinned tabs too, though I kind of wish they acted more like bookmarks than persistent tabs. But that may be my misunderstanding or misuse.

I also like that it’s chromium so lots of extensions and good compatibility.

I still use safari on mobile because it’s very comfortable for me. Trying to migrate to Arc on mobile, but with something like a browser that you spend lots of time in, the inertia is high.

Finally, I’m a bit worried that they have no real path towards making money. The founder suggested a “boosts” store and some other vagueries. Needless to say, that will not keep a tech company (however small) afloat.

I’m so sorry you’re feeling this way. From what you described, I completely understand why life feels especially shit right now. You’re depressed, and that’s ok. Many of us (or nearly all in this sub) have felt similarly. Life is hard and sometimes it sucks hard. Change is the only thing we can always expect. But I promise you will feel better if you do these things:

First: get enough sleep every night and exercise 20+ mins every day (even a 20 min walk counts). One or two missed days is ok, but consistency is the ultimate goal.

Next: relentlessly focus on gratitude for the things in the world that you find beauty and pleasure in. Birds, sunrises/sunsets, rivers/lakes/oceans, gardening, hiking, music, dance, etc.

Finally: get mental healthcare if you can. Psychiatry and therapy. They will help manage symptoms and learn valuable coping tools for when you’re feeling flooded with emotion.

There’s obviously a lot missing from this reply and I expect you’ll find things that resonate with you as you move through your journey. Stay attuned to those things and cultivate the tools/ideas that you identify with. Those are your personal set of happiness keys. Thank you for reaching out to strangers on the internet and good luck <3
