As a blahaj.zone user, I thoroughly appreciate the default blocklist.
In addition, in my home country discrimination and harassment are thoroughly illegal; instances that fail to stop this should be blocked very quickly.
The wonderful thing about the fediverse is the creation of manually curated communities. If I wanted to interact with people and communities that promoted transphobic views, I would create another account and move.
Having a governance structure and rules is not antithetical to individual freedom.
Giving instances power allows for the creation of safe spaces and communities. Individual freedom then comes in the freedom to move between communities and block or report individuals.
