I picked up a literary criticism book on Caliban, a character in The Tempest, and I need to fix my ID to be able to renew it.

Long sentences, and the development of the ideas is long, complex, and not laid out straight like a typical hollywood story or simpler novel. They need to be thought about and discussed. Russian naming conventions also often confuse English readers, because they use multiple different names to refer to the same character.
Listening to the audiobook is the same as reading if you are actively listening. When it comes to Russian writing, I am skeptical that you are fully absorbing the information just passively listening to it. But if you feel that you are, then it's reading.

It's because they are pandemic kids. Schools refused to adapt to the fact that the kids basically lost 2 years of education. Instead of giving the 5th graders 3rd grade materials, they just let the kids who lacked foundation fall further and further behind. It impacted every grade level, but the ones who were younger were the worst impacted. Research shows if you're behind on reading in 3rd grade, you'll probably be behind for the rest of your time in school.
