All soldiers killed in the conflict were sent home when possible. 4. All Russian POWs were exchanged for Ukrainian POWs. Give them positives to take home. I'm not saying give them land or assets because they don't deserve them. But they need something for their souls. They do have them.

Sometimes you have to make that distinction and I would agree with you on that. That structure is rigid and mired in the past. They are hidebound to never admit defeat or even a truce. For that military culture, it is only victory that can be achieved at any cost. They really do mean the "any cost". I think the opposition party has to give them a face-saving way to "win". 1/

All three entities are enmeshed in conflicts they cannot win, that are very unpopular both at home and abroad, that are destabilizing their economies (& now the world's), and are threatening their hold on power. I don't know that we have ever seen this happen in world politics before. Maybe we have. None can survive because they are adrift. It's a matter of time and opportunity.
@WoodScientist@nesc That is the one thing about modern warfare that the old style did have. The old kings did actually lead the armies into battle. They had skin in the conflict. These guys? pfft! They don't care if people die or get wounded or maimed. They never even see the blood and carnage. I wish they did. I really wish they did.
@floo@Sunshine You know, it strikes me as being extraordinarily naive in a sense to even try to impose sanctions on these things. It is impossible to regulate this kind of commerce in world trade any longer. People just do not pay attention to those restrictions, or if they do, it is only to devise methods by which to evade them. It doesn't seem to be worth doing in many respects. Unless you could make them inoperable by specified entities or in certain applications, I don't have an answer.

Then there's the matter of the Louisiana Purchase. That's most of the middle of the US which would go back to France. Florida would go back to Spain. Most of the Northeast would go back to Great Britain with some to France. Or we could just give the whole thing back to the Indigenous peoples. It's ALL STOLEN LAND.

MOST of us want Ukraine to be a free nation from Russian influence. We'd admit to NATO and send troops. It's our namby-pamby politicians who want to play games with Putin that keep this going.

Drives them nuts. The wives can't shop and the kids whine and complain, while the mistresses want attention but they can't pay for anything. Hey, learn to play the game the Russian way. Diplomacy just does not work with them. Never has. But turning off the money? Every time.
