Yes. Mods should be able to troll. Admins too. Everything is permitted. This is not a corporation or a government. It is all dictatorships. These little autocracies are what make lemmy great. 😌
i like the choice algorithm for which posts are better than others more attractive, but that's about it, i dislike the UI, it has no API, it's not clear which instances are federated & i can't find my favorite lemmy communities there, i have no idea how to subscribe to shit, it's pretty cool for idle browsing for a few minutes while pooping but that's about it
Developers should have the responsibility of ensuring their users get the freedoms they deserve.
No one deserves anything
right to study and modify the program and distribute the original copy and the modifications
there is no such right in any code, legal or moral, that i've read in the past, i wonder what philosophical branch it is that sources this perspective
what’s stopping the developer from adding spyware into the app
nothing, but when they do that, that's when they're "being unethical". That's like saing it's unethical to have a kitchen knife in your kitchen because you COULD stab someone with it.
Why would anyone trust that the program does what’s in their best interest?
cuz they're dumb & uninformed. doesn't make it unethical tho, afaik.
because every instance behaves differently and as an explorer, i like testing how things work in other places, and the different "points of view". It's like when you're looking at a great statue (the Fediverse), but you can stand from any angle, below, behind, on top, in front of the face, and sure, you can see a ton of it, but the perspective is different on each instance.
And besides, every instance has different rules and features. If I wanna say controversial things, I pop into the free speech one. If I wanna watch some tiddies, I pop into the nsfw ones. If I just wanna look at memes and see what's going on, I pop on lemm.ee or kbin. If I just feel like doing some organic interaction, I pop onto sh.itjust.works and send a few comments & messages and have a good time.
I actually made a script that creates a card when you hover someone and it tells you their points. It seems to be bugged now, tells me my comment score is 14, when it was like 700 a few days ago lol. I have like 600 comments in my main account so i imagine it's a tiny bit more.
I see this user who deployed using this script, I click the username link below his name which should lead to server.tld/u/username, but it leads to server.tld/users/username, maybe some kind of dbUser -> outside world configuration is broken?
Also the Bio is different on his local instance and the federated instance?
I already have 10 lemmy accounts and like 2k compounded points in 12 days!! I have ruined my sleep schedule because I stay on Lemmy till like 8 am! I have procrastinated my well paying job to get more hours into this and even developed plug-ins for lemmy when I could've been developing shit for my job! Yes, I've been using Lemmy more than Reddit. ðŸ˜ðŸ˜”
unethical? takes away control?? you choose what to put on your device, proprietary software doesn't enslave your hand into pressing the install button.
I tried all of the apps out there including Sync and continued using RIF because, for me, it was simply a superior user experience to anything else in the market.
Aesthetics-wise, though, Sync and many others are much better. Sync is one of my favorites for sure. It's very pretty. I used it for a long while trying to make it my new alternative cuz the looks were so much better. It was very good. I can't remember why I went back to RIF. Must have been a trifling detail.
Overall I'm extremely happy to see Sync here. It's a high class app in what is a primitive environment I thought was not gonna be amazing due to the lack of apps and stuff. I'm 100% sure if Sync is finished here, there's no stopping Lemmy's growth.
i wanted to go see a shttton of rock & metal bands including metallica in a festival but 1. that shit's so expensive (like €200 per day?) and 2. the tickets for the festival i was looking into were out the next day that they were published? maybe resellers or something idk but that's crazy.

It is an appeal for reddit to commit self-die

never seen any proof of anyone deserving anything, including that
i can charge $1k or i can charge $0, if i can choose, why would i go with $0. i like money, it makes life easier.
