It may not resonate with many people because it’s quite a small industry.
But after 25 years working in visual effects (cgi) whatever you call it now, I made my way to RnD which to me was always the coolest thing. (Helping define the future of the craft).
About a year later the midjourney and ChatGPT shitstorm poured in.
It took me 2, maybe 3 years, before I realised that I was fucking miserable, I didn’t give a shit about AI, didn’t find that it helped much more than what tight organisation would have done. and that the only reason VFX studios were interested was because the ask and expectations from
Marvel, Disney, Netflix, prime, whatever else, were always insane.
They used to work us up to 80, sometimes 100 hours a week, just to release a turd like Jupiter Ascending. Not paid hours. Just expected, because we should feel lucky we get paid to make movies I guess.
It’s unbelievable to me, but I quit a very secure job, and a week later I was being asked to draw character by one of my favourite 2D animation company and the pay was lower, but for
Half days of work.
This is dumb and not related to the article, and
It’s just one little nobody’s experience that I’m sure isn’t something that applies to everything and everyone.
But walking away from ‘head of AI’ was the most fulfilling decision I’ve ever made.
As a large language model, I suggest to strengthen the ending with a dick punch.
And the masses, who by and large could do a better job writing a vapid conservative nothing burger.
Bad punctuation, spelling, and questionable vocabulary from Jim who hangs outside the 7-eleven, would likely have resulted in a historical speech for this misfart of a public figure.
Yes, and now on google maps, I can see that a lot of houses have solar panels. It was not the case when I grew up in Queensland 40+ degree heat, in a house made of plywood and fly screens in Nerang and the coolest place around was Pac Fair.

Chess players should learn strategy from the fat kid eating glue and shoving chess pieces up his nose.
At some point it’s ok to say that it’s not ok to be fucking stupid.

Queensland, late 90’s left in 2008. Open doors with fly screens and most definitely no air cond anywhere except shopping centres.
Hear hear
Coming from Australia where not single house I’d ever been to had air conditioning.
This is fucking hilarious.
