Definitely appreciate the coverage you're giving to the issue. Dunno about yourself but been on linux since the mid 90s, and it's community has always had some tolerance for binary blobs. For example gaming on Linux is was a big deal but nvidia was bad about binary blobs. Even some networking drivers were blobs.
Edit: I think my/our terminology might be getting cross crossed. Drivers and I even think dynamic mods can be closed. Because theyre their own binary. Things that are linked at compile time have to be open. But I might be wrong.
