Those look like a some kind of arborvitae. They can be trimmed back, but not too far at once. If you part the branches you'll see the greenery is only on the outside of the bush, the inside is bare branches. You can not trim back to the bare branches, they can not sprout fresh foliage there.
I just had to cut down some giant arborvitae at the house we moved into. They had been allowed to grow way too large for the space where they were planted and trimming them back to the needed space would have eliminated nearly all the greenery.
I hated to do it, I helped plant them about 25 years ago, but they were rubbing on the roof and eaves (a bigger variety then you have here) and from on the porch you were just looking into the bare branch interior of the bush.
Right, but they could keep them in a private Library. Shoot, throw them in a tote and stick them in a closet. Deliberately destroying rare books isn't just regular profit motivated evil, it's over the top. I'd say cartoonishly evil if it didn't piss me off so bad. Seriously, are they going to drown bags of puppies next? Burn down an orphanage?
If it's a side gig thing you can get a SolidWorks Maker license. $48/year for full SolidWorks, you just can't make more than $2k per year using it. Looks like it's 50% off right now too.

Most birds are assholes (by mammalian sensibilities), I don't think any amount of training would have made it safe to turn your back on one of them. Wide adoption of mounts that are just waiting for an opportunity to kill and eat you is a tough sell, lol.

For the this to be intended to be a PR stunt only, everything would have hinged on Valve sending them a C&D after they did all those things. What if Valve had ignored it? The most simple explanation is usually correct, and never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity, lol.
If they made the tooling to mass produce the cubes like they claim they did, that advertising was very not free. In fact, paying for a lot of advertising would be quite a bit less money. I think they had been getting away with using Valve IP on skins for years, and thought they'd get away with this too.
