I've been trying out Helium for the last month. It's still in beta but so far it's working well and works the way I want.
It comes with ublock installed and just for an extra measure I installed priv badger and noscript.

I find that very annoying too... The search engines are not like they used to be. They are all turning into clickbait sites.
