Self hosted Wireguard is what I also use (though with WG Tunnel app rather than the official client for auto connect when I leave my home WiFi) but both support split tunneling when you edit the tunnel properties. Just check the AA app, save, and you're good to go.
Which VPN provider are you using? Maybe look for split VPN in the settings or app exclusion. Then select AA and the warning goes away and AA also works as expected.
I would personally avoid them, for anything that you would expect to be original phone replacement parts.
Years ago I bought a LG Nexus 5 replacement battery from them, advertised as original, which turned out to be a bad Chinese fake. I even found the serial number on it on forums where people were complaining about it being fake and comparing it to the original.
They never acknowledged it, refused to replace it, and I was left with a battery that was performing way worse than the 3 or so years original one.
