Pretty good, I’ve got a magazine I’ve been reading in my target language and I can understand almost everything given my familiarity with the subject matter and the amount of pictures. My reading speed is still a lot slower than English but that’ll improve as I read more and more. I’d previously read a few books in my target language and maybe understood 70%, but in the magazine it’s probably 90-95% comprehension.

I assume this is from Starship Troopers, I just finished the book. I’ve seen the “I’m doing my part” gif for years and never seen the movie, but maybe this’ll be the kick I need to actually watch it.

I used to ride this pretty frequently, at $2.90, it’s a cheap and fun to do for tourists and locals alike. Plus Roosevelt island is a nice place to stroll around and feels very different from the mainland (aka Manhattan 😉)

I studied 5/7 days, but I’ve got some friends visiting so that always makes it difficult to carve out time. Also, it’s almost impossible to find someone to practice speaking with so I don’t have a good feel for my conversational ability. I’ll continue reading for the time being, but the good news is that I’m able to understand more each day and I’m getting faster.

I’m heavily in favor of congestion pricing. Already NJ is looking to spend Billions (with a B!) widening the turnpike leading to nyc which will eventually funnel more cars (and therefore noise and pollution) into the city. That project is a boondoggle for other reasons, but the point remains that there is massive demand for visiting nyc (duh!). We need to encourage more people to take more efficient methods of transportation. So many people drive into the city with only one or two people in a car, compared to 50+ people that can fit in a bus or hundreds in a train.
