I think all instances should have a sort of cache, while fetching data from the original server. then if a server is detected to go down, the instance "immortalizes" the cache. i think this reason something like this isnt done though is because it doesnt fit with the intention of activitypub

The fediverse also wastes a lot of data because each server duplicates every post and comment.

every login manager was broken, it'd just crash after I put in my password. It was the final straw

Arch has never "broken" on me through my 3 years of using it, but after a while weird issues would start to appear. Like for example my login manager just stopped working permanently and I had to do startplasma-wayland. Ssh agents also subtly broke. Stuff like that. I forgot to enable fstrim and my system freaked out during I/O eventually. These are all technically user error, but I don't feel like spending so much time on managing my operating system.

I ended up switching to Fedora and was pleasantly surprised how well it's setup by default.

Fun fact: you probably know that wireless earbuds have a primary/secondary relationship, where the audio source connects to just one earbud, which then relays it to the second. Interestingly, this isn't the case anymore with Bluetooth LE audio, where the phone manages the connection to each earbud independently. even though the phone does more work, it uses less power because the codec is more efficient
