PCs stopped typically having disc drives because the demand was down but they were and still are available. How's Sony's gaming market share doing these days, I'm sure this and other anti-consumer moves like pulling out of the PC market are going to get people flocking that way /s
I think it's misleading to compare Sony's actions regarding their proprietary ecosystem to the slow movement of the decentralized PC market over time.
I'm skeptical how biased this reporting is with ctv having US ownership and all. I've actually met some of the Phiber folks, it's a family of farmers that spun up a farm equipment manufacturing business on the side which is taking off with their sprayer trailers. The way the article is written gives the implecation that they'll move altogether, I'd guess what Phiber's comment actually meant is that they may need to consider a brick and mortar in the US to serve their American customers.
There's Glacier on the US side and Waterton in Canada that are ajacent to each other. There were hiking trails that cross the border when I was there in 2009.
It's the model of companies/China running at a loss until you squeeze out any viable competitors then once you've captured the market increase price and/or enshittify your product.
I think the point was more along the lines of "what if the person you're reporting on always looks bad, do you need to go out of your way to achieve 'balance?'"
I hope I'm aware of at least 3/4's of the levels of wrongness. We're pretty influenced by American culture but still have our own identity. It seems to be fading a bit with time but I remember travelling to the US and thinking why is the yogurt so sweet? Why is the bread sweet?
Could be some performance or quality of life updates in newer versions of the mod.
