Sure, encryption may not be important for large groups but it can happen that it may be needed. If I were to make a group with my coworkers, I'd want that to be E2EE. On top of that, even without E2EE, you need good UX to host discussion groups for various topics, and Jami is simply not there yet.
That's what I was saying — sometimes the TOTP option is not available at all for certain services. Ente, Aegis, Bitwarden, etc won't save you there and itsme remains the only option on mobile when that's the case.
It doesn't matter whether it's a private or public service if they both use the same auth provider (beId). I wouldn't be surprised if the SMS/TOTP options went away completely at some point for our "security".
A different issue is that itsme is often the only option when doing things on mobile. Sure, you can avoid it for now, but it's getting increasingly inconvenient to do so, unfortunately. I try to express my disappointment to itsme every now and then about the fact that they require Google's SafetyNet and that the Connective Plugin needed to activate itsme in the first place doesn't even work on Linux, but to no avail. They sent me a detailed email about setting up a Windows VM to get it working so credit where it's due for the effort, but the situation is still bad...
If I'm not mistaken, it's up to the the service that's using the Belgian e-id to enable some of the options or not. For example, the website where I check my payroll only works through itsme or with a card reader — no TOTP or SMS 2FA. It's a big issue because itsme refuses to run when you don't pass Google's safety net.
I supposedly have the simplified home screen but there are still ads for various streaming services. And I use fdroid for most of my apps but the overall experience with the streamer is very poor and outright hostile. I'm planning to get a random android TV box to replace it.
I have the latest Google streamer but I find it garbage. Not only is the UI not very fluid given the price of the device, it has ads on the home screen that you cannot turn off and, worst of all, the play store is hidden. I have to go deep into the settings to fucking find it.
It's slow in general, they're not using vector maps like organic maps do. I love what OsmAnd does but it's definitely slower to render and more sluggish to navigate than other maps on my FairPhone 5.
In the US maybe. Even in western Europe, 10k $ or € is a buttload of money per month. Something like 4x the net salary of a backend developer here in Belgium where I live.
I just tested it again on my Fairphone 5 and it's still slow. I'm not talking about the UI but the rendering of maps. Unless they somehow manage to fix that, it'll keep being a poor experience.
I have decided against Aura because it splits the commands for AUR from the standard repos. With paru I can upgrade both by running just paru. In the end, that's all I mostly do with an aur helper.
It also means that the rendering will potentially be different on each platform given they all use different native webviews (and there's no "native" webview on Linux but WebKit-gtk is the most widely used one)
From what I can gather, they don't intend on adding multi device capabilities for technical reasons. A big requirement for me is to be able to use both mobile and desktop without losing the history.
Last I checked, Plasma BigScreen was nowhere near ready for everyday use. Has that changed?

You can't have big groups in Jami, it's limited to a small number of participants (can't remember how many).

I guess his son picked Bazzite for gaming. Linux Mint would not help with that since it's lagging behind in updates to drivers (Mesa, etc)

It's there in the Izzy repository

Did osmand change its rendering engine to make it as smooth as OM?

Well, Opera is also based on Chromium.
They plan a release for 2028. It's going to be a while before it can be used for everyday browsing.
