For a deeper philosophical spin on the idea, you might try "The Mote In God's Eye" by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle.
@MariaRomanov A few people have told me that the whole thing needs to be read in a single sitting for it to work.
Personally... It's just slow and depressing. Nothing that really keeps me, and nothing that makes it feel worth reading.

@jordanlund I prefer the 5x8" book size, and I think that'll work really well for your lil library.
Unfortunately, if you were to go with my favourite book series, Wheel of Time, that'd be all you have room for.
