The reason is probably to garner as much brand awareness as possible bc the goal of marketing isn't to just get a point across. If a company like DDG can gain a good amount of brand awareness by advertising and selling some relatively inexpensive sunglasses with the company logo on it then I personally see it as a net positive.
I wonder how many more users this feature will have once google reimplements it compared to its initial release. This has to have been done on purpose for the free publicity.

I copy/pasted the snippet below so just double check that's what yours looks like. I also don't have to login every time (except after a container restart) when auth is enabled as long as I check off the remember me box.

I haven't looked through the channel line up much since I've only used it when there's a specific show or event I know I wanna watch. There's a shit load of channels though so worth checking out if you haven't done so already.
I also found it on the Awesome IPTV repo a while ago. Might be worth checking that out as well.
