Thanks! I don't really mind either way, but I already have a roo (his/her father) so I'm kinda hoping for a hen, that way I'm more sure they'll get along.
If it does turn out to be a roo though, he'll go live with my parents who are currently roosterless.
I reared my current roo by hand as well and he's an absolute sweetheart.
I've reared chickens my entire adult life and I've never eaten any of them, just their eggs. I'm not even vegetarian but I can't bring myself to kill something I invested love and care in earlier. Luckily I'm not a prepper.

Follow-up: turned out to be a roo and he was very tasty!
Just kidding, he's actually a great pet, follows me around like a dog and loves playing. Named him Goji, short for Gojira.
