All this "there will be no promotion". Is the promotion.

For something that isn't being promoted, I sure am hearing about it a lot

Isn't this his like third "final" film?
When I saw the title I thought he had died for moment, because that's truly the only way I see this man stop working. He clearly loves it.

It's based on a book by the same name.

To be fair, knowing that a film is directed by Hayao Miyazaki would be all the information that I need to figure out if I wanted to watch it. I do.
It would be interesting to see the impact on the box office numbers. They may not dip as badly after opening weekend if there is positive word of mouth.

"I'm gonna retire!" Is great marketing

It makes me sad because, in the spirit of do not go gentle I feel great things should go out with a bang. A commémoration of life well lived. But it was quiet brilliance that made his films great. Melancholy is my mood, but the artist is to be respected.

Looking forward to this.
