Given HP Lovecraft's known status as a paranoid raging bigot, I wonder if there's some game where the elder gods are cool actually, the "cultists" are just people broadening their horizons into cosmic queer transhumanism, and the investigators are just close-minded people wishing to restore their own sense of normalcy. Which, true to form, about half the time awaken into these horizons anyway.
I don't know but I'm now very much considering writing that book, as a scathing critique of how those books are "products of their time," and as a metaphor for how times change.
The op of that tumblr thread blocked me after I asked him about the fact things he claimed were common knowledge about a video game I played extensively as a kid do nopt line up with my memory. So I'd take his claims with a grain of salt.
Ya, I earned my bones playing Palladium games as my first TTRPG and I never recall “gay” being part of any madness (or insanity as it was actually called).

Was it DSM I or II that had PMS as a psychosis? I like to think of Cthulhu giving a player irritability and cramps.

Truly an eldritch horror for Cthulhu to inflict over a cis man

...suddenly being a cultist sounds appealing.
Could just be the cramps talking.

I'd love to read it! Sometimes I wish to do it but I don't think I could do it justice. I'm but a fledgeling bi occultist.

Broke: I'm autistic
Bespoke: I have gazed into the eyes of the endless one and became aware of the beginning and the end

Disclaimer: I’m old. My memory might be shit.

I did some digging (and by that, looked at the first result on google) and it seems to be correct.

I can't help but think of that old meme "Spider-Man has made you gay" video but instead of Spiderman, it's Cthulhu dancing around in a gay, gay way.
