I don't know exactly when 196 became an unofficial furry hotspot, but I'm here for it.

knightly@pawb.social · 45 pts · 2y (9 replies)

It just sort of happens whenever there's enough queer folk in one place. XD

Zehzin@lemmy.world · 25 pts · 2y (4 replies)

I'm not saying every 196 user is an autistic gay furry communist programmer, but I am saying they're at least two of those things until proven otherwise.

But quite a few of us are, in fact, all of the above.

knightly@pawb.social · 3 pts · 2y

Guilty. 😸

zea_64@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 2y

Well I don't identify as a furry, but if people start meowing it'd be rude of me not to join in :3

KoboldCoterie@pawb.social · 14 pts · 2y (3 replies)

The percentage of furries that are queer is definitely higher than the total population average; I wonder if the percentage of queer folk who are furries is also similarly higher.

knightly@pawb.social · 19 pts · 2y (2 replies)

As of the last survey a few years back, something like 80% of furries are queer.

Never saw estimates for how many queer folks are furries but I suspect it's a tiny fraction.

Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 9 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Separately, the number of furries who are in IT is supposedly very high as well, though I have yet to meet any.

knightly@pawb.social · 6 pts · 2y

I've noticed this myself! Any moderately-sized org probably has a furry or two keeping things running behind the scenes.

SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 2y (2 replies)

"Palmer Cox" is a little on the nose, don't you think?

idunnololz@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 2y (3 replies)

Wait are straight furries not a thing?

Num10ck@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 2y

i feel like when this book was made, the word queer meant weird. the authors name totally negates this line of thought though, which is fabulous.

knightly@pawb.social · 4 pts · 2y (1 reply)

They definitely exist, they're just a minority in the furry community.

ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

And they're often really angry about that.

dislocate_expansion@reddthat.com · 1 pts · 2y

I'm pretty sure they're a psyop from a rogue nation state and don't exist
