That's a snapper. It's a mean bastard and will bite your shit right off. Getting them to leave the road can be a real battle.

Ah, you found a dragon! By which I mean a snapping turtle. Probably the species called common snapping turtle.

Fun fact opinion: snapping turtles look way more elegant in the water than on land.
