My god is this race delivering - drama, overtakes, crashes everything

Thade780@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 2y (8 replies)

We need sprinklers randomly going off on all tracks.

espentan@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Bernie?!

Thade780@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y (4 replies)

Pfft if you did that at Monaco, literally no one would finish. You'd have a Talladega Nights-esque ending where the drivers have to get out of the wreck and footrace to the chequered flag.

espentan@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y (1 reply)

I'd watch that..

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y

I think it'd be hilarious, but Yuki wouldn't have a chance because he's so short.

egonallanon@lemm.ee · 1 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Hell wasn't far off what happened in Monaco '96. Only 3 classified finishers at that race.

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

...holy fuck

exanime@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 2y

We almost got road hazzards with the ballsy groundhogs popping up

lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 2y (1 reply)

ALBON NO

Just isn't Williams' year this year ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Edit: Dammit Sainz :(

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y

astronautwithgun.jpg

It never is.

Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 15 pts · 2y

Damn the mercs were quick at the end. We genuinely have 4 teams capable of winning

lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Haas what did you do with the pitstop..

๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2y

I don't even think they know...

hsr@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 11 pts · 2y

Haas breaking everyone's ankles, holy moly.

lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 2y (2 replies)

So unfortunate for Norris.

Crazy drama in this race so far.

Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 7 pts · 2y

Yeh well one could say it balances his luck from Miami

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

He also seemed to lose grip in the pit lane.

espentan@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 2y

Brundle on Perez: I forgot he was in it (the race), if I'm honest

Can't blame you there, Martin.

lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 2y (3 replies)

Bonkers strategy by Ferrari. What were they thinking.

Thade780@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Bold of you to assume they were.

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

Did the ghost of Mattias Binotto decide to haunt their paddock?

Worx@lemmynsfw.com · 6 pts · 2y

No way for them to get any points with the engine issue, might as well try something. As long as Charles doesn't crash there's no cost to going slicks

Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 9 pts · 2y (2 replies)

What a move by albono

Thade780@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Overtake of the day for sure.

Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 5 pts · 2y

Of the season till now

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 2y (10 replies)

Perez you bellend...

espentan@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y (9 replies)

Jeebuz..

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y (8 replies)

He's no longer a serious driver. Change my mind. Bring in Liam Lawson.

Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 3 pts · 2y (7 replies)

Tsunoda should be one if anybody in the RB family gets the seat

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y (6 replies)

I agree, but I don't know that he'd be allowed to switch teams mid-season.

Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 3 pts · 2y (3 replies)

Well he is contracted to red Bull so they can move him around within their teams in anyway they want. Remember gasly and albon, max and kvyat

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y (2 replies)

I just wasn't aware of what rules Formula 1 had surrounding mid-season team switches. I only really got into F1 a few years ago, so...

Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 3 pts · 2y

As long as all the parties are in agreement, there is no rules against drivers moving teams mid season. Sainz has moved teams mid season (Toro Rosso to renault) before and we also had de vries being let off last year and replaced with Danny ric

Jumi@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Also, he's not the one bringing in the millions from Mexico

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

True.

espentan@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Lando carries on, with inters.. interesting.

Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 4 pts · 2y

One lap too much it seems

Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 4 pts · 2y

Well they are slow + leclerc has a PU issue. He was a perfect candidate for a crazy strategy because he ain't scoring points anyway

lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2y

Excellent start by K Mag on that wet tire. Disastrous for Ricciardo.

GreenEngineering3475@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2y

dimspace@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2y (3 replies)

Totally understand why Haas made the call on wets, surprised more lower teams didn't try it

But equally surprised they put both drivers on wets.. smart choice for lower field runners surely would be split strategy?

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y (2 replies)

My view is that they thought they're so low they might as well send it. What happens if it goes wrong? They finish last in the Constructors'?

dimspace@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y (1 reply)

yeh, im more surprised other teams didn't give it a shot.

Like why did Red Bull not take a punt with Perez, faster cars, on wet tyres, he could have made up a ton of places if it worked out.

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

Wouldn't have mattered, because Checo finds a way to bottle it.

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2y

Mercedes have the opportunity to do something quite funny here.

Thade780@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2y (4 replies)

Did Charles factory reset his car?

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y (3 replies)

He just did the old "delete win32.sys" trick. Also, hello. Didn't know you liked F1, too. Mikadono sisters on the grid when?

Thade780@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y (2 replies)

Been watching F1 since the 80s. ๐Ÿ˜… Hopefully tomorrow morning there'll be the new chapter!

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Oh wow! Yeah that'd be nice. Think Miwa could do better than Checo this race?

Thade780@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

Would be hard not to...

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 2y

Sainz nooooooo!

Nighed@sffa.community · 5 pts · 2y

I'm here for a ham podium!

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 2y

Yuki NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :(

marine_mustang@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 2y

Ooo, wet race.

alphacyberranger@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 2y (1 reply)

This is exciting.....hope the weather gives us excitement till the end.

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

Agreed, but I think the tyre strategies alone will do that. I'm more worried about the safety aspect.

Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 5 pts · 2y (2 replies)

I sense a safety car

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

You called it.

Thade780@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

And there it is.

Nighed@sffa.community · 5 pts · 2y (5 replies)

Where those hards!?!

Thade780@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2y

Classic Ferrari.

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 2y (2 replies)

Yup! Leclerc on hards, which is insane.

Nighed@sffa.community · 2 pts · 2y (1 reply)

And then some. Piastri is looking spectacular, and a McLaren 1-2 would not shock me.

lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y

Jeez Perez. Knocked the crap out of the rear of his car.

Nighed@sffa.community · 4 pts · 2y (1 reply)

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y (4 replies)

Are the stewards going to investigate that latest incident between Russell and Piastri? Seemed an unforced error from Russell, if you ask me. 5 second penalty, perhaps?

Edit: I said it!

Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 1 pts · 2y (3 replies)

I felt piastri was the one who bought his elbows out. Usually the car on the inside yields if they are behind in that corner

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y (2 replies)

But doesn't the ruling also depend on who's ahead going into the braking?

Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 3 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Yeah. In this case both George and piastri were level. Giving a pen to either of them feels idiotic. Was just hard racing

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

Fair enough. I can't really argue with that.

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y

Any bets on whether Leclerc will be able to finish?

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y

Oof Sargeant.

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y (8 replies)

Of course Checo fucking takes the piss. It'll be fun to see who Red Bull put in that second seat in 2025. Maybe Sainz? Tsunoda?

dimspace@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y (7 replies)

I mean, Checo has been renewed for 2025, and option for 2026...

but that all could change but it would cost RB a lot of $$

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y (6 replies)

Something tells me that Red Bull's "fuck you" money means they don't really care all that much. Plus, Helmut in all certainty wants Checo gone, fucked up racism notwithstanding.

Microw@lemm.ee · 1 pts · 2y (3 replies)

Helmut has lost his power in the team, as far as we know. And RB definitely doesnt want to put their own money into the team

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y (2 replies)

Helmut has lost his power in the team

Deservedly so. Wouldn't really shock me that much if he's a wannabe Nazi.

RB definitely don't want to put their own money into the team.

Ah, the age old question of money.

Microw@lemm.ee · 2 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Marko was born in 1943 within a country annexed by Nazi Germany. His post-war upbringing in a society that wasn't really denazified is definitely noticeable.

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

Yeah, that checks out.

dimspace@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y (1 reply)

he's not doing himself any favours that he is still sitting 16th.. isn't even making up places in the backfield

I feel like anybody in that car would be going faster than perez

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

That's exactly my point. I'd love to see Sainz or Yuki in that spot. I genuinely believe Yuki would be a top 5 threat in a Red Bull.

hagelslager@feddit.nl · 4 pts · 2y

Well, that was a very entertaining race!

espentan@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y

Logan doesn't like a wet track, doesn't like a dry track.. I don't know if we can accommodate you, Logan.

dimspace@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y

safety car just as the rain arrives, this is gonna be mega interesting

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

Their battle has been a comedy of errors, really.

Oneobi@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y (2 replies)

Its raining so I hope we get an exciting race!

espentan@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Fingers crossed.. if it starts raining harder I'm sure they won't hesitate to red flag it.

Nighed@sffa.community · 2 pts · 2y

As long as it starts before the rain hopefully we will be fine. Without the cars to dry it, yeh.

My concern is it gets red flagged due to a crash, then it rains loads

alphacyberranger@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 2y

Haas back to default settings

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Oh wow Max with a REALLY bad entry into that turn. Uncharacteristic of him. RB should probably just box for the softs imo.

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

Update: Yeah...I called it. I don't think anyone outside McLaren stands a chance at winning barring a red flag or a crazy strat. Pit now and go to the slicks.

espentan@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y (2 replies)

RB has got to be questioning their decision to re-sign that guy.

Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 7 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Red Bull have been making bad decision after bad decision since the horner sexual harrasment scandal. I think jos was right and the team is in disarray due to internal dissatisfaction with the investigation as well as all the politics going on

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y

Imagine a timeline where Jos Verstappen is actually right. What an embarrassment...

Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 2 pts · 2y

Russell and Norris fighting each other is helping max big time

Too late..

Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 2 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Where the hell is the rain

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

Right now probably over the Old Port. The circuit sits on an island in between downtown Montrรฉal and the southern suburbs of Saint Lambert and Longueuil.

Nighed@sffa.community · 2 pts · 2y (1 reply)

So the inters turn into pseudo slicks right? So they can hold these until it rains then out on new inters?

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 2y

Kind of, but they'll wear a lot quicker than the softs.

Nighed@sffa.community · 2 pts · 2y (1 reply)

That's a broken rear axle?

Thade780@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

Looked like from the replay.

alphacyberranger@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 2y

Poor chuck

espentan@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y (4 replies)

How can Piastri's tires be one lap older than Max's, didn't they pit on the same lap?

Thade780@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 2y (3 replies)

Used in quali, maybe?

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2y

Yeah I think that's it, because I believe FP and quali are included in tyre age calculations when shown on the broadcast.

Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de · 3 pts · 2y

No more probably used in a FP session. Tyres used in quali usually have 3 laps on them - outlap + quali lap + inlap

espentan@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

Mhm, maybe..

slurpinderpin@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

I normally like most of the drivers but George bothers me

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

We've all been wrong before, and we'll all be wrong again. Don't sweat it!

dimspace@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y (3 replies)

George doing George things, and where the hell did that extra burst of pace suddenly spring from for Norris.

Its like his tyres suddenly found 2 laps worth of total sweet spot

SatouKazuma@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

I'm actually interested in seeing the tyre wear on the McLarens. Could we see Norris have to switch onto slicks just as the rain arrives?

espentan@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

Norris was nowhere in the wet, while George and Max were wearing out their tires battling each other Norris could save his.

TheRealKuni@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2y

hsr@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 2y

So rain will arrive just as they've worn down the entire tread. Too bad we didn't see anyone gamble for slicks, if the rain isn't too intense maybe softs would be able to handle it.
