Apparently it works retroactively and now you are on Windows.

key@lemmy.keychat.org · 54 pts · 2y

Oh man, that would be a hell of an easter egg if it cleared your terminal and pretended to be a dos prompt

SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world · 58 pts · 2y

"ruin dev" is redundant; that's the default behavior.

RichardoC@lemmy.world · 52 pts · 2y (1 reply)

Nothing, it's already ruined(!)

Lemminary@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 2y

dev.ruin()!

SyntaxError: Unexpected ! operator

No, it's an order!

Understood

NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone · 42 pts · 2y

Npm ruined dev long before you tried this.

PrettyFlyForAFatGuy@feddit.uk · 36 pts · 2y

Your code will be minified and your git history deleted

BigMikeInAustin@lemmy.world · 30 pts · 2y

You'll be forced to use only Windows forever.

cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 29 pts · 2y (1 reply)

i think the dev is already ruined having to use npm

corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 2y

Security people will say so.

Godort@lemm.ee · 29 pts · 2y (1 reply)

believe it or not, jail.

MajorHavoc@programming.dev · 3 pts · 2y

We have the best deployment pipeline in the world, because of jail.

It's an alias to start the upgrade to Windows 11... you thought you were being careful all those months dodging the Windows 11 upgrade button but you've done it now! Get ready for an objectively worse OS!

Did you get four hundred thousand viruses?

Psythik@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

Computer over?
Virus = very yes?

That's not a good prize!

You forgot to run npm edge dev first

polonius-rex@kbin.run · 19 pts · 2y

deploys your code to your dev environment

dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 2y (1 reply)

NPM ruin dev is a new advanced feature that endorses opinionated "extreme programming" techniques. First it gets to work rebuilding node_modules, but with all the least compatible module versions in order to accelerate testing. It also minifies your .js code in place, to save you some CPU cycles later. Lastly, it squashes your entire git history on all branches, to save space.

sukhmel@programming.dev · 3 pts · 2y

It also tries to do rm -rf / to save more space, but in this case it's a futile attempt

un_aristocrate@jlai.lu · 11 pts · 2y

You may have to switch to a proper operating system to redeem yourself.

squirrel@discuss.tchncs.de · 8 pts · 2y

npm will ruin the dev now. It happened to me 11 months ago

lud@lemm.ee · 7 pts · 2y

The NPM gods will smite you for using CMD instead of PowerShell.

activ8r@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 2y

Hope you didn't have the repository URL in your package.json... otherwise it'll be gone now.

MonkderDritte@feddit.de · 7 pts · 2y

NPM on Windows, it doesn't matter anymore.

__init__@programming.dev · 7 pts · 2y

Yeah you’re gonna need a new dev environment. That one’s toast.

reboot6675@sopuli.xyz · 6 pts · 2y

Your .env with production credentials is now up on a public repo

corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 2y

Same thing.

Jakylla@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 2y

Not sure CrowdStrike runs on npm, but still ruined it all for sure

Solitaire20X6@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 2y

MCP: Already there, Hun! END OF LINE.

ParetoOptimalDev@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 2y

Its an alias, so no problem.

istoff@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2y

You should press backspace. 😉

npm ruin dev running shittier could be a nice prank... depending on how often it gets typed.
