Not to mention all the other ghosts. More than 100 billion people died already so the ghost layer should be far more crowded than the normal world.

Not everyone who dies becomes a ghost. Ghosts are people who can't pass on due to having unfinished business.

Cats tend to look intensely at spots where we only see a wall or door, or something. The only reasonable explanation for people is that they apparently must be able to see ghosts

It's either ghosts or firmware updates. You need to be careful, as bothering the later may brick your cat into blep mode.
