Primary AND backup coffee places both closed for renovations?! You've gotta be shitting me.
Any coffee recommendations around Melbourne central? Maccas just aint cutting it.
Shortstop is nice, but the temptation to get a 7 dollar doughnut is oftern too great. Tigers den are shut. Forgot about little rouge. Bakemono was the other one, I'm a sucker for those sesame seed honey things.
I can vouch for shortstop. Used to live on Little Lonsdale opposite the Children's Court, and would go to Shortstop for their coffee and DELICIOUS DOUGHNUTS ๐คค๐คค๐คค
Oh wow! 15 years ago, I worked two doors down from that location. That spot used to be a sushi bar, from memory.
The building between used to be a single-story Foodworks. That building is also gone and is now another office block. We sure need lots more new office blocks in this WFH future. ๐
I used to get shit tons of Justice Department letters for a presumed ex tenant. After sending back NATA about ten I stopped until I had that many again, then sent them all taped together. It stopped after that. Google wouldnโt tell me and I didnโt dare open them.
Two times this week I got the dreaded 'you seem like a great guy' from online dating apps.
The first had bad experiences in the past with guys who have the same first name as me.
The second we were going to meet up tomorrow for the first time but messaged today to say they've reconnected with a guy from their past so cya.
I understand the reasons but boy, with the lady who 'isn't one for pushing drugs on people, but I think you should take some of my medication', and one who said she just left a cult, online dating apps have not been fun (though, interesting).
Words can't express how much I appreciate missing the whole online dating thing. I met my wife at a very unromantic bar. In the days when "we met online" was still a bit weird.
Everything about the dating apps sounds awful. Not just for men, if anything I think women probably have it worse.
Go out on the weekends to bars pretty much. Or under very unique and rare circumstances, in your day to day life.
You need to be the kind of person who can smile and say "hey, no worries, have a great day/night" to being rejected. It hurts a bit in the beginning but then it's ok.
Had a weird dream: I let in a cockatoo (white sulphur crested) to chill with me while I slept, it wandered around on me/the bed as I drifted in and out of sleep, and it kept biting me - not so hard it hurt but like quite hard. It moved around biting my hands, legs, head. It then summoned a buddy cockatoo to chill and bite me more. Dream ended when one of the cockatoos peed on my face
A little while ago I bought myself a bunch of really pretty (and full sized) flannelette hankies on etsy. They have been a godsend for my little nose through the snot-aggedon of the last week. And I think I'm getting better!! and I had a coffee!
Gratitude for local FB actually recommending a good plumber, and for said plumber replying and saying 'yeah we can sort that for you tomorrow'. Also for sorting it in 15 minutes plus fixing the tap in the shower and only charging me a callout fee.
Grateful for the sun, my own place to recuperate in, and once again - sick leave and permanent jobs. It is a huge relief not to have to worry about lost finances/shifts/etc
In the office today. Nothing exciting going on. I do have a test iPhone 15 I'm considering trying out (moving my personal sim over to it) but I'm so embedded into the Android/Google ecosystem that I don't know if I can be bothered. Plus it'd render my smartwatch somewhat useless, at least while I use the iPhone which wouldn't be permanent.
I will likely change my mind in the next 15-20 minutes and just do it. I'm a wildcard.
I hate apple. Was a samsung/android fan for years and years and years. I got a work iphone a few years back and went "meh, may as well get the watch" and never really looked back. The apple watch is amazing, how samsung have never been able to get that quite right blows my mind. Well worth a try cause at worst you'll come back to android with a new appreciation for the stuff that makes it great.
I like iOS for their app ecosystem, but I can't deal with not having direct access to my filesystem.
Also sideloading on Android is heaps easier. And Firefox has extensions on Android.
I had a jailbroken iPhone for ages and it was awesome. But I think cydia and all that scene is dead now.
Honestly, I had hella issues with SD card storage back on I wanna say s10? the phone juttered and stalled and really struggled, the second I pulled the card it was totally fine again. took it to Samsung who couldnt find a fault so just decided not worth it. I just buy a big enough phone and "deal" with it these days. I've only filled it once I think, and the iphone "Dump quality photos to icloud storage" solved the issue.
Every time I look at the Apple watch, I just can't get past the bit where you need to charge it every day. I have a Garmin, and already hate that it only goes about 5 days between charges.
Pakige is waiting for me at the post office. After my Temu splurge I will have a few more coming over the next couple of weeks too. I am undermining my own decluttering progress. Hopefully a couple of things I have up for sale get bought soon and cancel it out a bit!
We have a box of stuff that we want to get rid of. Dealing with annoying people always feels so exhausting though. It always feels like it is too much hassle over $10 or $20.
It can be a hassle. I often do porch pickup so I don't have to actually meet people directly - surprisingly no one has taken the item and not left money yet. The stuff I have at the moment is all postable stuff on eBay. I think the fees they charge are well worth the reduced hassle, but unfortunately eBay doesn't get the sales volume it used to. I used to be able to put up just about anything with a 99c start, it would be bid up to a good price and sold within a week.
did 30 minutes weeding in the garden and planted jalapeno seeds. Did 30 minutes, of sanding of the chair. Have done many loads of washing. Did some grocery shopping.
I have now officially spent too much on Temu. I am completely out of money so will be stopping now. ๐ฌ I was suckered in to buying a tool to make meatballs, so I guess meatballs will be on the menu soon.
Dinner truck! Just what I needed. Some soup, and baked fish and greens. And a cup of non caffeinated tea and a chocolate chip cookie for dessert please.
Started watching a K Drama last night and feel utterly sucked it. Might also just be bored at work, but I wanna go home and watch it! Also, my mofusand plushie has been delivered so I wanna see that! Feeling like a petulant child today!
I've just been wondering if it's my messed up temperature regulation or if it really has been warmer than usual today. House was toasty. I really hope I feel well enough for a walk in the sun tomorrow
I have no idea what HRV status is but in my old bed it was unbalanced. Every night since the new bed and mattress it's been balanced so I assume that is a good thing.
A low HRV is usually an indication of illness, back when I was tracking it I could tell when I was on certain medications by looking at the graph. Not 100% sure how scientifically robust it is but interesting to follow along for sure.
Heart Rate Variability. I'm not convinced of it's value as a health metric but I haven't read the research. e: I first heard about it on the Joe Rogan podcast over ten years ago when he still had interesting guests. I'm skeptical of anything I hear about on a podcast.
I have a trolley that is one of those wire rack shelving dealies. I am trying to put a new top on. The new top will screw into four holes on the top of the unit. I cannot get these fucking cunts to line up, no matter how many times I template. I am enraged.
Put top upside down on floor. Put trolley upside down on top. Drill/screw into place from underneath. If screws are to go in from the top, then put them in before positioning the trolley. Blu tack is your friend here. I can never get templates right either.
I ended up just 3d printing inserts with a through hole for a 10mm drillbit guide, gonna jam them in the poles, double sided tape on top, flip/stick on a piece of ply, pull poles off inserts, drill and voila. Template.
I was rooting around in the cupboard and came across these.
I have no idea what they are used for. Obviously one is a jug, one a glass and the other lid/saucer. I tried google search photo thing but they come up separately. What are they? Who gave them to me? Why are they a set? It's got me stumped.
Hard to tell from photo - what is the capacity of the jug? Cos you might might might be looking at an absinthe set without the strainer. Which would be a rarity as absinthe was illegal for a long time.
Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. The "lid" fits perfectly on the "sugar bowl" but there's a lip on the top which must have a purpose. If it's used under the jug then there's no lid for the sugar. Maybe I keep digging in the cupboard. Maybe there's more I'm unaware of but doubt it.
Maybe the jug sits on top of the lid on top of the sugar bowl?
Man, that Rikodeine really throws a brick at your brain and knocks you out but not in a good way... I've only taken medication with codeine one other time in my life (panadeine forte after a wisdom tooth extraction) - and I hated how woozy and half-conscious it made me. Same with this. Where's the euphoria?? Ugh. It did help me stop coughing all night but I've been straight up unable to get out of bed for hours. I guess that's what I needed, but it feels like crap.
It's so perfect outside, I want to go for a walk and soak up the sun on a nice patch of grass, but I feel too weak to right now. Yet staying in bed all day will feel gross too. I don't feel like watching anything either. ...maybe I'll sit at the entrance to my balcony for a bit and just do nothing. What a crazy idea!

Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y
I like iOS for their app ecosystem, but I can't deal with not having direct access to my filesystem. Also sideloading on Android is heaps easier. And Firefox has extensions on Android.
I had a jailbroken iPhone for ages and it was awesome. But I think cydia and all that scene is dead now.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y
Pretty sure it does have filesystem access now. Or near enough to it anyway. I never side loaded apps anyway.

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y
It can be a hassle. I often do porch pickup so I don't have to actually meet people directly - surprisingly no one has taken the item and not left money yet. The stuff I have at the moment is all postable stuff on eBay. I think the fees they charge are well worth the reduced hassle, but unfortunately eBay doesn't get the sales volume it used to. I used to be able to put up just about anything with a 99c start, it would be bid up to a good price and sold within a week.

I have no idea what HRV status is but in my old bed it was unbalanced. Every night since the new bed and mattress it's been balanced so I assume that is a good thing.
I definitely feel like I sleep better.
Pilk@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y

Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y
Put top upside down on floor. Put trolley upside down on top. Drill/screw into place from underneath. If screws are to go in from the top, then put them in before positioning the trolley. Blu tack is your friend here. I can never get templates right either.
Taleya@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y
1m length tubes, no can drill from beliw.

TinyBreak@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y
beautiful!
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y
I'll have to find a purpose for it now.
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 2y
Hard to tell from photo - what is the capacity of the jug? Cos you might might might be looking at an absinthe set without the strainer. Which would be a rarity as absinthe was illegal for a long time.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y
It's a teacup size so maybe 180-200 ml ish
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y
Would not rule out the absinthe option as the size is about right. The saucer would be the spoon rest for the strainer after use.
Alternatively, the saucer thingy may be a spoon rest to go with the milk/sugar bowl as mentioned in the other comments.
Pilk@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y
Cream and sugar set? With the saucer to catch drips under the cream pourer?
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 2y

What a crazy idea!
dumblederp@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 2y
That all sounds par for the course with opiates. Doing nothing in the sun is probably perfect.
