It's not as comfortable as other offerings on the market, and the lifespan is quite a bit shorter, but it can fit certain lifestyles fairly well. It's not generally regarded as a long haul vehicle though.
If anyone wants to talk shit about Checkerboard Vans slip-ons I will throw fuckin hands. I have 3 pairs on the go at all times - around the house, going shopping and going out and have for about 20 years which has nothing on the origins of the design which originated in 1976.
