In one sense, it is quite good that in this particular case we have made zero progress:-).

My cynicism agrees that unfortunately the genie is out of the bottle and this has only one direction of progression.

I don’t think Earth was ever in any danger.

Yeah I think it's really counterproductive, same thing with the climate crisis, we don't need to save the planet but our own asses!
