The bean will only melt above 2500F.
We have issues.

betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world · 29 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Jet fuel can't melt steel beans.

If you have a girlfriend, she has my pity. But she can probably help you find it.

as an european: may i politely inquire: WTF is going on over there??

The bean is a sculpture whose "reflective surface was inspired by liquid mercury" (Source). This post implies it's actually made of mercury and has now melted. The linked webpage says it's made of steel, but as we all know, it takes a lot of heat to melt steel beans.

Chicagoam here. The bean is just a stupid tourist attraction. If you want to see real outdoor art in the city, go find the Picasso. It's like a story and a half tall, you can't miss it.

luciferofastora@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 1y

I don't know either - never bean to Chicago - but it sure looks impressive

Duamerthrax@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y

The artist is also the guy who bought the exclusive rights to Vantablack and hates that people call it "The Bean", se lets all call it what it is.

Oh so that’s why they call it Bean Town!

Etterra@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

No that's Boston.

TheRaven@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 1y

Sorry, obscure Parks and Rec reference.

ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org · 4 pts · 1y (1 reply)

You can taste it right now just by licking it...

Make sure it's not been freezing the night before.

Etterra@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y

That's a lie meant to fool tourists. It's perfectly safe to lick the bean in winter. You can trust me; I'm not just a Chicagoan, I'm Sicilian.

TunaCowboy@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y

That's fucking beananas bro.

Etterra@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1y (1 reply)

As a Chicagoan, I can confidently assert that no locals would touch (or miss) that stupid thing. The parade of tourists that think it's great however? They'll be drinking that shit lol

FlyingSquid@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y

I like it in concept.

A big mirror thing in an organic shape is a cool idea.

The shape chosen is the problem. Actually, if it looked like it did in the meme, I'd like it a lot more.
