Wasn't it proven that the poor guy was convicted on bad science? Didn't the original judge and prosecutor say he should go free?

I'm finding it very difficult to see why Texas should be allowed to remain independent. They can't maintain their infrastructure, they can't provide for their citizen constituents, and they frequently signal a willingness to demean America by association. They're not good at governance and are constantly begging for Federal handouts.
So let's just take over the state. Send in the Feds, remove the Executive branch and State supreme court justices, and disbar the legislative officers. They keep fuckin around and it is past time they started finding out.
