YouTube didn't exist when I was a child. One Saturday Morning is what I had. Didn't even have cable to watch Nickelodeon.

XDCC and usenet were also quite popular back then as well.

Did anybody else start out watching anime on the Nintendo 3DS YouTube app? That thing could only load video at a max 144p and you had to infer what the subtitles were saying based on the shape of the blury smear that ueed to be words.

I used to watch anime and movies on my DS Lite using homebrew, but that was via files downloaded straight to the storage so I could manage 360p!

Back in my day, you either watched what was on TV, at midnight on Saturday or you had to buy shoddy DVDs from China on eBay, for $50/season, and there was no guarantee that the disks worked. And we were damn thankful for the fact that the DVDs had subtitles.

That's too late in the timeline. Y'all never experience the pleasure of finding some good 32MB rmvb episodes.

I was around before YouTube. You don't know true struggles.

I just use piracy sites for that nowadays 🙃

I watched Howls Moving Castle this way right after high-school 🤣
