Nah, gotta go with a trainer with a nice and heavy but dull metal blade. That way you still have the pain of smashing your fingers to reinforce the training.
I have a stainless steel butterfly bottle opener. An excellent combo of practicing butterfly tricks while opening more and more beers has led to some very red knuckles.

Gotta get a trainer with a weighted dull plastic blade before you graduate to the real thing. Helps avoid this predicament.

I just went straight into KNIFE. I learned quickly what I should and shouldn’t do. I’ve only cut myself a few times in 20 years!
