If you go over that limit, there won't be any kind of indicator/message saying so.
If you try to submit a post, you will get a forever loading icon, and the post will never be submitted.
So make sure to check your character count.

There should be a limit, of course, but 10k is a bit too little IMO.
I would rather see one bigger wall of text, then multiple smaller walls of text that continue in the comments because it didn't fit in the post...
For a reference, the other site had 40k for the post and 10k for the comment.
