Needs a few more pinkish colors to differentiate factions.

Yeah this map is dogshit. In fact, using actual dog shit would've made this map easier to read.

Karen National Army vs. Karen National Liberation Army sounds like something from Monty Python.

Thats crazy how many factions there are, are some of them allied or is it just anarchy?

rimu@piefed.social · 9 pts · 1y (1 reply)

It's the State Administration Council with it's 4 factions Vs the rest.

Looks like mostly tribal/ethnic groups although Karen seems split into two.

Even Karens don't like other Karens

I guess the rivers in this country are used as defensive obstacles in this war …

Oh look, another product of Western colonialism gone to shit.

They've had their independence for 77 years. After a while, I think blaming colonialism is a bit reductive.

TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 1y

Blaming colonialism is used by many corrupt, incompetent post-colonial governments to distract people from their own corrupt incompetence. It's like with Putin blaming NATO and the West for everything.

I think you need to look at the history of Myanmar if you think there is nothing to blame the British for here.

yetiftw@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y

77 years is just not that long in the grand scheme of things

YogurtAddict@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1y

No, it's because of ethnic and tribal reasons, not colonialism.
