Does anyone know of any interesting and unique #Minecraft "clones", like #VintageStory or even #Terraria (which is a bit far removed from Minecraft, but I'd count it for this question)? I do know of #4DMiner and those two, but that's about it.

Edit: To clarify, I mean games that are clearly inspired by Minecraft, and would be called clones of it by ignorant people, but which actually offer a unique experience of their own. Luanti sounds like it probably has some interesting cases of this, but MineClone itself is actually the opposite of what I'm looking for.

I've had a fair amount of #fun with Luanti (Minetest). It's an open source game similar to Minecraft. The only downside is if you are expecting a nearly 1:1 recreation of Minecraft with the same features you'll have to do a bit of modding.

That said the game has a really rich modding scene and from what I can recall the modding process was quite easy.

I'd second Luanti, but just clarify that these days it's more of a game platform than a single game. It has a built in content management system to download games, mods and texture packs.

The games available to install via Luanti range from Mincraft clones like Mineclonia, to semi-clones like Voxellibre, to original blocky survival games like Exile, all the way to arcade style games Extra Ordinance and platformers like Glitch, where you'd swear they were built on a totally different engine.

Mods for Luanti games are also pretty great, everything from fully fledged train systems to airships and everything between.

Oh, Extra Ordinance isn't exactly what I was looking for, but that looks really cool. I'll have to give that a try eventually.

Sorry was too lazy to link everthing. Extra Ordinance was more an example of the fact that Luanti can do all kinds of stuff and it's a single game.

These might be more to your taste:

Add the VoxeLibre (MineClone) plugin, and it’s a great alternative to Minecraft with most of the same feel.

And both the game and the plugin are free and open source.

that sounds super cool.

Starbound is fairly close to Terraria, but in space.

I know that Factorio started as a minecraft mod. But that completly stands it's own ground. I would have never called it a clone thou

homicidalrobot@lemm.ee · 5 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Love veloren, but it's worth mentioning this is a Cube World clone and not a minecraft clone

jan75@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 1y

Oh, i didn't know that, thanks for the clarification

Nziom@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y

daskye@fedia.io · 1 pts · 1y

@Pamasich@kbin.earth Since you mentioned Terraria and Minecraft, I'll put Core Keeper on the table too! :) It's fantastic, especially Co-op

There is Eco global survival, but i havent played it

There is also Forager which i think counts

Gelatine probably doesnt fit the requirements for a minecraft "clone"
