Why do people in these threads always act like uBlock is the only adblocker out there? It's true that MV3 nerfed adblockers in general, but not nearly as much as what I've heard about uBlock Lite. The one I've always been using hasn't really changed functionally at all from what I can tell.

Like, I see some people act like Chromium just doesn't have usable adblockers at all anymore. That's just not true.

I thought this actually sounded reasonable, until I got to employment.

Like, both of the ones before might not be about loans directly, but they're about whether you'll be able to pay your bills. It makes sense for the companies to change their offer if they don't believe you'll be able to pay them. Rent and postpaid plans are both about getting something now and paying for it later, so it imo makes sense that they first evaluate whether you're likely able to do so.

But I don't see how that applies to employment....

They came from Reddit, communities having their own rules which you're supposed to read before posting isn't an alien concept to them. I believe it's justified to expect that much from them.

Also, that post was restored pretty much right after it got removed.

and mbin (or kbin, whichever is still in use)

It is Mbin that's still alive, yeah. Despite some instances still being named kbin, like the one I'm on, they're actually running Mbin.

Now I wonder if I should really register a new account for each service. May I ask for your advice? What do you recommend?

Do you get any benefits from the accounts? You can subscribe to Lemmy communities from Piefed and vice versa. Piefed can now follow Mastodon users iirc. So do you get any benefits from having accounts on both Lemmy and Piefed separately? Are there other benefits to a Friendica account for you than following Mastodon accounts?

That's the important question really. If they don't have anything to offer to you that the others already provide, then you don't need that account.

Oh, I forgot credit score exists in other countries since we don't have it here.

But isn't that system quite straightforward and justified? I mean, if you want to take out a loan, imo the bank is justified in wanting to know how likely you are to pay it back, and refuse giving it out if they aren't convinced you'll be able to repay it. Though I didn't know you can increase your score by getting more cards, so maybe the system is less straightforward than I'm aware. Sounds very capitalistic to me, like the goal is for you to throw away more money at companies instead of paying back your debts.

I always laugh when people whine about China's social credit system.

To be fair, not everyone who does so is from the US.

The US also literally has a credit score system that can completely fuck you over and you cannot opt out, either

Can you elaborate on what you mean by this? I'm not from the US, but this sounds interesting. First time I'm hearing of it.

There's also Mbin which doesn't really have this political baggage that both Lemmy and Piefed seem to have.

So they're not really limited to just Lemmy.

Mbin is very much still in active development. Where did you hear it wasn't?

Are you confusing Mbin with /kbin maybe?

That's a recent feature though, isn't it? If it's so important to you, why didn't you join Mbin instead which has had it for ages?

I can understand people staying on Reddit more than those staying on Twitter to be honest.

At least spez hasn't gone full nazi yet, or provided tools for generating pedophilia.

Both of which people seem to be perfectly fine with. So it doesn't surprise me they're fine with Reddit too.

I do see the formatting on your instance too, so it is probably voyager that's the culprit here.

I assume it relies on the source field on posts for the formatting, which contains the post in Markdown. But that's a threadiverse feature, Mastodon doesn't support that. The actual intended way to federate formatting on the protocol is to send it as HTML and then the receiving server interprets the HTML.

The actual projects like Piefed and Lemmy understand that the Markdown isn't universal and so fall back to interpreting the HTML when it's not present. So the post appears as intended there. But I guess apps might not be as thorough there and solely rely on the Markdown with no fallback. So when there is no Markdown, the formatting is lost to them.

Just my thoughts on the matter though, haven't actually looked at the code.

Seems like an issue with the app you're using then.

My guess is it doesn't support HTML formatting, which is the fediverse native way of formatting posts. Posts are supposed to be federated as HTML and then the receiving instance interprets the HTML. But the threadiverse also includes a source version of the post which is in Markdown, Mastodon iirc doesn't do that. The app might be falsely relying on that source version, but nothing OP can do about that when Mastodon doesn't support it.

The formatting is there, but probably not in a language your threadiverse-centric app is made to understand.
