Budget domain registrar supporting dynamic DNS?

I've got a handful of domains coming up for renewal. Do you know of a low-cost Canadian Registrar that supports scripted/API management so I can keep my dynamic DNS updated?

I know about EasyDNS, but they want an extra $20/yr/domain for dynamic DNS. All the other Canadian registars I've looked at have no API support.

Registrar none afaik, but you could use free DNS from cloudflare and automate that.

At least that way you can keep the registrar in Canada, if not the DNS.

Yeah, will do that if necessary. I got a nice support message from Canspace suggesting that I look into Hurricane Electric's free API-managed DNS service as well.

not Canadian, but gandi is based in France and offers an api to update dns for free with domain registration through them. i think their prices are decent too? it's been a while since i've looked at them.

i'm guessing a lot of the smaller domain registrars aren't going to offer dynamic dns.

edit: avoid gandi. bought out by private equity firm, now jacking up renewal prices. i heard that previously but had forgotten about it. sorry!

Avoid Gandi. They got recently purchased by private equity and have been jacking up renewal prices like mad. I had them double a dotcom domain renewal. So had a friend. They used to be great before that.

ooh I remember hearing about that. I'll edit my original comment.

Tried a few gibberish .ca domains and it rejected them all. I wonder if maybe they just aren't allowed to register our TLD?

they're listed on their website as "available"? https://www.gandi.net/en-CA/domain/tld/ca

i thought i had a .ca with them at one point in time, but could be wrong too. i dunno.

i wonder if cira is having issues because searching domains on their site is returning an error, and i've tried a few different domain registrars and all .ca domains seems to be coming up as unavailable.

I'm currently using Namecheap and in my mind, ddclient support was something relatively basic and common. But now that I search for a Canadian registrar with the feature it does seem hard to find :(

I've been utilizing Porkbun's API for that purpose with a periodic script that checks and updates my DNS
