I think a lot of it comes down to Anne’s personal struggles with religion being reflected in her works. She seemed to have an on-again-off-again relationship with The Church (she was Catholic while involved with a church) and Big G himself. The question of the existence of the divine was a major theme throughout that series.
That would explain why I was such a fan of those books in middle school. (Grew up very, very Catholic.) I haven't reread them since so I'm willing to take your word on it.

That said, Blackwood Farm is a pretty good book so some books are worth reading past Queen

I love Tale of the Body Thief, Armand and Pandora are both good too. She’s just a very… experimental author so not everything hits for everyone.

Ejem, what? And with that said, is sucking blood from weird places a recurring plotpoint?

No, just that one time. The recurring theme seems to be Rice putting her kinks into the book.

Memnoch is a trip!

And then she went and retconed it in Prince Lestat. Memnoch apparently wasn’t the devil, just a particularly potent spirit.
