I mean, there has always been 'random=funny' humor. Brain rot is just the currently popular form

There's a fun hypothetical scenario where there's a snail coming to get you. It always knows where you are and it never sleeps or dies. It's coming. If it touches you you're dead.

I'd say it falls into the category of anti-joke. Kind of like this bit from Space Ghost
