Are you defending against expansion parties or pollution attacks?
Either way spitter acid has splash damage and ideally you would have a one time gap between turrets to negate the splash.
Also, you have bots, why are you using an ammo belt?
Mostly just defending against expansion in this position so this number of turrets is probably overkill.
I'm sure this design is a long way from optimal. My logic at the time I built it was something along the lines of:
just want to squash as many turrets as possible into the space available
requestor chests are expensive, bots can be slow and get shot down, and I was worried that chaining the turrets might lead to ammo shortages. You might have noticed that the belt is being fed by bots in this case via a single chest.
This has given me some ideas for experimenting with different layouts, thanks

I suspect that they have avoided adding that functionality because it essentially would put an end to the threat of biters
