Explanation: "Goths" in the modern day are people of a specific aesthetic subculture.

"Goths" in the 4th century AD were a roving group of Germanic tribes which, at various times, allied with and against the Roman Empire.

Small correction: usually, subcultures are not just about aesthetics, they are mostly about values and shared experiences, and derive a lot from these things, like mannerisms, clothing style, music style, etc.

Also, why does the modern goth wear a Nirvana shirt? That's grunge not goth.

I guess neither Goth claimed the weird, kinky stuff would be sexual.

Or does a kink have to be sexual? I can imagine ancient Romans being up for most things.

I can imagine ancient Romans being up for most things.

Depends on whether it's before or after their conversion to Christianity

Yeah after they got more interested. Because the stuff they already used to do suddenly was forbidden. This is good for fetishizing.

Not barbaric things like wearing pants
