Weil es trotz allem deutliche und erkennbare Unterschiede gibt, die eine solche Pauschalisierung nicht rechtfertigen.
Im Sprachgebrauch wird "die DIN" allerdings meist für Normen benutzt und die Bezeichnung bzw. die Nummer einfach weggelassen.
