Not really the same but in mass effect 1 your best man kaidan was only into female shepard. However by mass effect 3 he was totally down to get with male shepard since ya know worlds ending dude has saved your life countless times and everyone needs someone.
Truely kaidan was the mvp for the whole series. He was such a bro.
While some companions may have preferences, most origin characters are designed to be "playersexual," meaning they can be romanced by characters of any gender. This allows for a wide range of romantic interactions regardless of the player character's chosen gender.
