GOG is not a nonprofit. They don't need donations and I doubt there is any accountability for this money.

I need more details of how this works, honestly. Are the donations going 100% towards game preservation efforts, as opposed to normal sales where GOG takes a cut to make a profit? If so then I can see it. But otherwise donating to a for-profit company seems odd.

They backed out of supporting the Stop Killing Games initiative led by Ross Scott so I rather doubt it's to support preservation at this point.

Oh my sweet summer child.
Just like ATMs at the pickup counter have a default tipping prompt, which is now normalized, imagine filling up at the gas pump and being prompted ahead of time to leave a tip. Or on your Netflix subscription. Etc. Corps will take advantage of this shit once someone starts it and goes with it.
