I had a bowl of air fried cooked brown rice. One half desert spoon of olive oil and half a teaspoon of vege real gourmet stock with about a cup of cooked brown rice. Ten minutes air fry, its crunchy and tasty like potato chips, but cos brown rice / olive oil, super healthy. For game snacks its rice cakes and promite. I'm keen on keeping this figure.
I swear to God the gardener at work gets some weird satisfaction revving his petrol leaf blower. It's the most annoying, infuriating sound that makes me want to go all Liam Neeson on his ass.
Feel that. I went a bought a long cable so I can watch it on the tv in the bedroom I got free last week. Apparently half the Aussie team have partners in the English team. Gonna be a great game, with extra tension. I doubt I'll see it all though. I get up at 5 for work and I'm just super opposed to living tired anymore. I love women a lot too, and I feel like my current shape is quite Matilda's player-esque so that's nice. It's lovely to be excited about women's sport and know the rest of the country is too. It's about time.
I think I might have a drink tonight while watching the game. The question is do I sink a couple of beers, g&ts or pull out the big guns and make margaritas? Big choices.
I think this might be the way. I've got a crook back atm and last night my egg exploded in the microwave so today I need to clean it more thoroughly. I am not impressed. I need to medicate.
My house mate and I drank a carton of beer one morning watching a world cup game. Every yellow or red card or goal was a full beer down. So yeah, 12 of them. I have no recollection of who played or the score but there were a lot of professional fouls. I staggered to bed at about 10am. Fucken ell. Almost feel hungover just remembering.
I just woke up. I came home and collapsed in bed and straight up went to sleep for 3 hours. ...And I'm going to have dinner and drug the cat and go straight back to sleep I think. Sorry Tillies ;_;
I'll have to have a look at that and see how it goes. In truth I am saving for something next month where i'll be able to treat myself to something a little bit more substantial.
Been doing occasionally the homebrand/Aldi fizzy drinks as well so they're good enough for me.
Lots of nice cordials around. Buderim ginger cordial. There are fancy schmancy elderflower cordials too. The Bickfords range is huge. My all time favorite is the Bickfords Lemon Lime & Bitters. I used to be a fan of Schweppes Lime cordial but I don't like the taste now - too fake sweetener and nothing like what it used to be 20 years ago.
You can make your own cordial by blitzing up a punnet of raspberries or blueberries with their own weight in water plus half to one third their weight in sugar (or a bit less), mix in a teaspoon of citric and/or tartaric acid. Bottle and keep in the fridge for up to a week. If it ferments, you now have alcoholic cordial .... Or go to YT for a recipie for raspberry shrub which is a vinegar based cordial and very nice indeed and possibly quite healthy.
PS. Grenadine is a fancy very sweet pomegranate cordial. Kinda gluey, but essential for a proper tequila sunrise.
I'm partial to the Aldi Westcliff Fruit Cocktail cordial. I add a bit to the glass, then add the soda water.
Depending on how much cordial you put in, it goes from tasting like those mineral waters with 5% juice (my preference) all the way up to a full blown Passiona.
NB: I don't like the Aldi Raspberry Apple or Lemon cordial. For lemon (like a lemon squash), I like the Diet Rite Lemon with soda. Diet Rite Lemon, Lime & Orange is good too.
I think those cordials are about $3.50 a bottle, though. So if you just want a couple of bottles to drink for one night, you're better off picking a couple of bottles of the homebrand fizzies.
I also didn't mind the Woolies Diet Ginger Ale $1.10/bottle, but haven't had that for quite a while. Lime goes well with it, but the real limes are often very expensive. You can pick up a bottle of Lime Juice for $1 and give it a little squirt to add some more flavour.
Soxcat has been sadly quarantined to the study and bathroom (with all electronics removed as she has once almost sprayed on a laptop...) No comfy couches or the bedroom for her lest she pee on things that are significantly harder to clean. Left out a heated mat for her on low heat for 8 hours though.
Poor girl, she seems to have lost weight - she's so light! And she snoozed on my lap for over an hour and it hasn't even been 12 hours since she arrived - that's record time - but I think it's because she's being all hormonal and affectionate.
Everything came up milhouse at the gp today. I'm healthy af, ideal weight, hormone levels are exactly where they should be and my bp and ecg are so bloody normal I feel basic.
If the matlidas win and I have a nice walk along the beach in the sun it'll be perfect. Wish the game didn't start at 8pm though, there's no way I'll stay up for the whole thing.
What to eat for the game though? I think the usual rice cakes marg and low salt vegemite will do fine. Staying away from processed foods, sugar and booze are obviously doing wonders for me. After the total glum and transphobia of last week, I feel positively fucking on fire. Thanks Milho
Op Shop find of the day. $6 A natural tumble faceted peridot necklace, the beads are pretty big, some flaws , yellow green but nice none the less. ๐
Alright, the cat's booked in for a hormone blood test tomorrow and I need to give her gabapentin tonight and tomorrow morning to sedate her beforehand. I have never given a cat pills before, let alone a squirmy one who's acting particularly wack. By the end of all this I think I'll have gone through all the hoops of being a cat mum, without ever having actually owned a cat...
Why is the delete button right next to the edit button on mobileโฆ
Itโs work experience!
If itโs the hard capsules you can crack it open and mix the powder with her meal, Melbcat doesnโt seem to taste hers. I do the same with Zylkene too.
Meat baby food is also a good mixer if they like it (without onions or garlic - I use Heinz pumpkin potato + beef or Smiling Tums beef + vegetables. There may be a suitable chicken kind as well.). Or Churu treats if she likes them.
If itโs truly a no go you mix it with a little water in an oral syringe and drip it in their mouth. Iโve never burritoed a cat before and canโt offer tips but thatโs an option if truly desperate
Hahaha, I saw your original reply seconds before it was deleted and was wondering what was up with that. I was all worried cos I thought the pills were tablets, but after reading your reply I've had another look and actually they are hard capsules, thank $deity! I've definitely had luck giving her Zylkene before mixing it into food.
This time around she's hardly eating anything out of the bowl - but she did go absolutely insane for the churu last night, so I think I'll try that. I also have an oral syringe I can use if it comes to that, thankfully. Had to give her bupenorphrine before so I've done the burritoing (once. Thankfully she didn't actually mind the taste so I didn't need to do it after).
That's so good to know that gabapentin doesn't have a really awful taste. I've got enough stress on my plate with work tensions and I'm really not looking forward to this evening :(
Itโs so annoying editing on mobile. Iโve done it twice now.
Yeah Iโve never tasted it but Melbcat seems used to it. Theyโre easy to open if the capsule is hard enough, just a gentle pinch of the longer side and twist the shorter cap over it off, like a screw top. One brand from a different vet was softer though and just crumpled and twisted up when I tried thatโฆ just snip the end off those.
If sheโs really not playing ball you can try something really stinky like kangaroo wet food or the Fancy Feast pate. You can also mix it in only a tiny bit of wet food and put a few treats in there to encourage her to eat it
Little miss doesn't like either of those things, frustratingly (she doesn't like kangaroo, she doesn't like pate, she doesn't like fancy feast). I'm going to do my best with the Churu. No outdoor Matildas game watching for me tonight!
I can work from home tomorrow but I have to essentially video chat/screen share the whole time with my... assistant of sorts. Like she's not an assistant but she does assist me in things. Iunno. Anyways, I'm basically giving her free reign to reply to all the emails I can't get to. Because the place I work for, one of the websites they look after you can't have just anyone logging into the emails which is annoying but I understand.
In other good news and annoying news, went to the doctor's and the doctor didn't even print of the referral and the poor receptionist was trying to print it off but it wasn't printing correctly. I got to the doctors at maybe 5:15 or so, and I only left at like 5:35. Like the receptionist was checking all the papers from this doctor and I just go "I have a feeling she didn't print it off because she thought she could email it to me." and yeah pretty much. Then I got picked up by a yank tank and I hated it. I hated getting into it, my chronic pain hated it. I just hated every second.
And now I'm overstimulated and I just want to cry and die. Possibly at the same time, maybe one after the other. And then I've gotta cook dinner, but I'm excited for dinner. I just... UGH. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk guys.
I feel you. I had to do the whole training/screen sharing thing for new hires in India. Generally I keep it to a 2 hour session and then get them to practise/slack questions in combination of โbusyโ work to keep them occupied. No way I could do that for a full day.
Trying to look up rules of soccer so I can watch the Matildas with some semi understanding, other than put ball into goals, donโt use hands. Apparently the whole world knows how to play except for me and itโs hard to find a basic video. Doesnโt matter, will be cheering anyway.
I'm in the same boat as you. Elder minipeeler will act as rule remembering person for thee evening because he's the only one who's actually played the game recently enough to remember any rules!
That was NOT a fun 24 hours. Kiddo had his MCH nurse appointment, and his growth is not what we want it to be so that's triggered a medical review. Went to a parents group. They were all talking about their nap schedule and how they get their kiddo down. And we're like "We cant get him to sleep". Then he had a fever thanks to his vaccinations. Super common apparently, but no one told us that.
So he didnt go down till 1am.
Fuck me.
Our first wouldn't sleep either (about 20 minutes at a time, until about 16 months from memory). It's so tough, and we ended up stopping going to the parents group because they were all about how much progress they were making with their sleep schedules....after we had just explained again how much trouble we were having...
It's really hard, but it will get better. Someone once told me to think back a month and see what had changed, improved, etc... Even if it was a tiny thing. Helped a bit.
Have to stay up for night shift prep, so put something gay and sad on thinking I'd be alright because it takes a bit for me to get worked up, but jesus fuck! I just am so insanely lucky to have my parents and their unwavering love and support. My Dad struggled a bit but he always reminded me he loved me, and his awkwardness around the subject had nothing to do with me. I don't know man, should not have done that, going to be thinking for a while and telling my Mum I love her.
Yeah, I feel lucky to have parents who are supportive of my sexuality and gender. Like they get very confused sometimes because I use they/them pronouns, but I understand that it's hard to get. My ex-stepdad was an absolute fucking dickhead, I'm glad he's not in my life anymore. But yeah, a lot of these stories about queer people being kicked out or killed really just hurts everytime I hear it. Like recently there was a dancer (who was my age!), O'Shae Sibley, who was voguing to Beyonce at a petrol station was killed. Like... it hurts, it really hurts.
My pre game dinner/snackapoos. Nuggets, cocktail franks, chips, cheese and gravy, bbq and tomato sauce and a couple of g&ts.
Also I did a little research and found I'm low on the gin so Gentleman Jack might make an appearance tonight.
Also when I said post your meals I meant pictures people. PICTURES. My bad.
I bring good news my brethren (and sistren and all others)!!!! Someone has watered the pothos at Richmond Traders - its actually showing some green shoots! So it is true that you can't kill pothos.
Wasted so much of my break time today trying to organise things for to make sure everything runs smoothly at work and nothing achieved apart from losing most of my break time today.
I'll be glad to get out of work today as soon as it all ends.
As in toppings? Got some nice free-range salami for one pizza, the other one will be veg - capsicum, red onion, mushies, corn. A nice mozzarella for both, might chuck on a bit of strong cheddar for good measure.
Didn't get back to sleep but fuggit I'm going to work. I have no sick leave left and I don't wanna be home for rental inspection today. Might see if I can finish at lunch or something
That was weird, I woke up about the same time thinking I heard my Mum yelling 'oh for God's sake ' or something along those lines.
For the newbies here, Mum died last May.
Have a fire going in the fireplace full bore thanks to those wax firefighters and the column heater going because Sammi made straight for my lap as soon as I sat down.
Sammi is basking on my legs and Zooks is stretched out on her side with her back to the heater and her front to the fire.
I just hope these cold mornings are over by the time I go back to work.
Struggling so badly with fatigue and being woken up also didnโt help. Cheers for shouting outside my house at 2.30am cunt. I would possibly have been able to sleep through the night without that
Sumo were also a bit unclear about the details of what you are signing up to and what the differences between their plans is. I was going to go with them, but they seemed a bit dodgy and another company became cheaper anyway when I did the compare again.
I ended up with Nectr for electricity, GloBird for gas. Nectr did have a dodgy estimate of the total price on their website, but the actual rates were the best. I have found that the Energy Compare site is the best resource if you enter your meter number, as it uses the actual use patterns you have. Make sure you select the option to include time of use plans on the left hand side to see all the options, depending on when you use power you may save money.
One thing to be aware with globird: they do a lot of estimating. They bill monthly, but rely on utility meter reads so every few months you get a wild bill in either direction
AGL used to do the same thing - I think any of them that do monthly billing have to estimate and they seem to do a pretty bad job of it. That was nice with Lumo, they would only bill you when the meter was actually read.
๐ผ๐ถI'm addicted to stress, that's the way that I get things done, If I'm not under pressure then I sleep too long, And I hang around like a bum, I think I'm goin' nowhere, and that makes me nervous.

Never not weirded out when I see an ad for prescription medication when streaming US telly, also shit tons of fast food ads like absolutely insane amounts of fast food ads.
I slept poorly. I am not running at 100%.
I made a mistake yesterday afternoon and am wasting time today correcting it.
My August 31 deadline feels a lot closer this week than it did a week ago.
Day 21 of exercises completed. Kids are still home sick. Mr Peeler also unwell, woke me up for medicine during the night and I didn't get back to sleep properly. Then when I did finally get back to sleep I had a weird dream that I was wetting the bed, which was so vivid I awoke immediately and launched outta bed and checked. I used to have dreams like that when I was a kid, but haven't had one like it for literally decades. Very disquieting way to begin the day!
It's currently -0.4 at my place, (feels like -2.5 !).
So very grateful to have the new heating - I set the timer so the house was warm when I got up. Unfortunately I still have to go outside to get to work.
I am truly appreciating a house with insulation and ducted heating. As are the cats. At the old house we woulda woken up with cats on heaters and under the doona trying to crawl up our arses, but this morning they sprawl with delights.
Damnit, sucked into Alice in Borderland S2. Should have been in Snoozeland hours ago. Pray for me. Todayโs work gave me a raging headache. Tomorrow might just lay me flat.
I appreciate some admins are in here but is anyone familar with aussiezones take on lemmy.world banning subs to piracy communities? is the same defederation going to happen here?
Just over an hour left. I can do this. I can. Really. Or I just can just type random things and hope my boss thinks I'm writing important emails. An occasional mutter thrown in here or there.
Was finally able to set up the free to air on the tv. Used to have Fetch but now that we don't have it anymore, we had to try and get a way to set up free to air but I managed to get it done and in time too!
I had a gastroscopy today to try to identify the cause of sudden onset severe reflux Iโve experienced in the last couple of months. Looks like Iโve got a hiatus hernia impacting my oesophagus, which I think the best cure for is surgery. Anyone else dealt with anything like that?
I have one of those! Funnily enough, I had it prior to picking up smoking (I also had wear and tear along my oesophagus from the bile I was refluxing, doc thought I was a smoker haha).
I was told that, for me (yours may be/is different) if I had surgery there was a high liklihood that it would just herniate again. I was told to stop eating acidic foods like tomatoes, coffee, chocolate, dont pick up smoking, and it can be managed.
I never stopped eating/drinking those things heheh ๐ฌ๐ and ending up picking up smoking 2 years later when I was 28 (long story). I still get reflux and whatnot, but it's managable and I take full blame for any issues that may develop later.
Iirc, the surgery is a keyhole one, not really too intrusive, though I may be misremembering. Either way, i dont believe the recovery time was long. I think get a second opinion just to be sure, but if you have been advised that surgery is for the best, then defo consider it!
(Edit: I'm hopping back on the wagon dw, and sorry for the weird text-wall, I don't believe I was very helpful lol).
Thanks for sharing your experiences. From what Iโve read online the non-surgical treatments just manage rather than fix the problem. I miss onion and garlic and tomato and chilli so damn much ๐ญ๐ญ
I was one of those people who unsubbed but still got emails from them.
I should have reported them, but I'm glad to see them slapped with a fine. Though, is a $2M fine really that big of a consequence to a business like Doordash I wonder...
Hmm. I didnโt get the potting mix for seeds and cuttings, just a cheaper premium general purpose with slow release fertiliser. It should be fine for cat grass seeds I guess.
Apparently itโs good to sterilise soil or potting mix when using for seeds or indoor plants because of moulds, fungus or gnats (though some things say you donโt need to with new stuff)โฆ
Iโve done it before with adding boiling water in a bucket and packing tin foil over it to hold in the steam. (Iโm not using my oven or cooking pots.) The spinach seeds I planted after sterilising did do really well.
I just donโt know if that would destroy the nutrients now... Last time I possibly used potting mix without plant food and just mixed separate fertiliser granules in after it cooled. The tub is still around here.
I donโt think nutrients in the slow release fertiliser will be affected by steam/sterilising temperatures, theyโre chemicals and not microorganisms.
I am so disappointed, I got a call about a last minute cancellation for my second ADHD assessment appointment but the appointment is for 9am tomorrow and I start work at 8am and wouldn't be able to be off the floor. I cried I'm so disappointed. The current appointment set isn't until November which feels like it's miles away and I am genuinely struggling to get uni stuff done.

So in preparation for the Matildas match tonight I've decided i might splurge a little on some comfort/junk food tonight.
I'm thinking maybe chips and a bottle of soft drink for tonight. It was also suggested that maybe I do a hot chocolate as well.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions, preferably not too expensive.
StudChud@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 3y
Seconding soda water + cordial. Soda water bottles are under a dollar, and Bickfords cordial lasts ages.
Open the soda water bottle and drink a little bit of it, to make room, then add the cordial to the bottle. Voila!
Healthier too I reckon, as it's mostly angry water with a bit of flavour and sugar lol but honestly, a bottle of Coke is unbeatable.
Treat yourself, friend, you deserve it!!
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 3y
You can always add a bit of grog to the soft drink to kill the germs.
Duenan@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 3y
I'll have to have a look at that and see how it goes. In truth I am saving for something next month where i'll be able to treat myself to something a little bit more substantial.
Been doing occasionally the homebrand/Aldi fizzy drinks as well so they're good enough for me.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 3y
Hot dogs. Get them from the deli section at the supermarket. Get the rolls from the bakery. Cheap as. Or just get cocktail franks.
Duenan@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 3y
Cocktail frankfurts and tomato sauce.
This is a brilliant idea for snacking!
Also looks like Woolies raised the price of cocktail frankfurts to 3 dollars for their homebrand packs now :(
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 3y
Bastards. Get them from the deli counter. Much cheaper.
Duenan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 3y
Really? I always thought the deli was much more expensive than the homebrand 500g packs.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 3y
deli is always cheaper
No1@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 3y
Deli normally cheaper for fresh chicken too (eg chicken breasts/thighs/pieces). And bacon. And ..... everything?
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 3y
$9 a kilo at Coles. I don't know about Woolies because I'd have to travel 5 minutes extra and I don't want to.
Duenan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 3y
Oh ok, thanks for checking.
I think from memory Aldi is 2.29 for 500g and right now at Woolies it's $3 for 500g which is cheaper.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 3y
Soda water and cordials often cheaper. Soda water by itself is actually pretty good too! But the Aldi cola is not a bad substitute for real coke.
Duenan@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 3y
I'll have a look and see how the combo works, never done soda water and cordial and might be a good one if I can get cordial that I like.
Yup, I don't mind the aldi versions of the fizzy drinks either.
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 3y
No1@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 3y
Duenan@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 3y
For some reason I keep missing the cordials at Aldi, I'll really need to remember for the next time I'm there to see what they have.

Iโve never burritoed a cat before and canโt offer tips but thatโs an option if truly desperate
just_kitten@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 3y
I've got enough stress on my plate with work tensions and I'm really not looking forward to this evening :(
melbaboutown@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 3y
Itโs so annoying editing on mobile. Iโve done it twice now.
Yeah Iโve never tasted it but Melbcat seems used to it. Theyโre easy to open if the capsule is hard enough, just a gentle pinch of the longer side and twist the shorter cap over it off, like a screw top. One brand from a different vet was softer though and just crumpled and twisted up when I tried thatโฆ just snip the end off those.
If sheโs really not playing ball you can try something really stinky like kangaroo wet food or the Fancy Feast pate. You can also mix it in only a tiny bit of wet food and put a few treats in there to encourage her to eat it
just_kitten@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 3y
Little miss doesn't like either of those things, frustratingly (she doesn't like kangaroo, she doesn't like pate, she doesn't like fancy feast). I'm going to do my best with the Churu. No outdoor Matildas game watching for me tonight!

So good news and annoying news.
FancyFeaster@lemmy.fail · 7 pts · 3y

That was NOT a fun 24 hours. Kiddo had his MCH nurse appointment, and his growth is not what we want it to be so that's triggered a medical review. Went to a parents group. They were all talking about their nap schedule and how they get their kiddo down. And we're like "We cant get him to sleep". Then he had a fever thanks to his vaccinations. Super common apparently, but no one told us that. So he didnt go down till 1am. Fuck me.
calhoon2005@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 3y
Our first wouldn't sleep either (about 20 minutes at a time, until about 16 months from memory). It's so tough, and we ended up stopping going to the parents group because they were all about how much progress they were making with their sleep schedules....after we had just explained again how much trouble we were having... It's really hard, but it will get better. Someone once told me to think back a month and see what had changed, improved, etc... Even if it was a tiny thing. Helped a bit.

My Dad struggled a bit but he always reminded me he loved me, and his awkwardness around the subject had nothing to do with me.
Taleya@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 3y
One thing to be aware with globird: they do a lot of estimating. They bill monthly, but rely on utility meter reads so every few months you get a wild bill in either direction
RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 3y
AGL used to do the same thing - I think any of them that do monthly billing have to estimate and they seem to do a pretty bad job of it. That was nice with Lumo, they would only bill you when the meter was actually read.

0.7 colds outside. Hope everyone is staying warm.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 3y
It's currently -0.4 at my place, (feels like -2.5 !).
So very grateful to have the new heating - I set the timer so the house was warm when I got up. Unfortunately I still have to go outside to get to work.
Taleya@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 3y
I am truly appreciating a house with insulation and ducted heating. As are the cats. At the old house we woulda woken up with cats on heaters and under the doona trying to crawl up our arses, but this morning they sprawl with delights.

I hear it's chilly today. I saw it hit 109F an hour or so ago (nearly 43 in real degrees).
Also saw a bunch of hooge trees and mountains, and did a lot of bendy mountain road driving and now I am pooped laid out on tonight's hotel bed.

I had a gastroscopy today to try to identify the cause of sudden onset severe reflux Iโve experienced in the last couple of months. Looks like Iโve got a hiatus hernia impacting my oesophagus, which I think the best cure for is surgery. Anyone else dealt with anything like that?
StudChud@aussie.zone · 2 pts · 3y
(Edit: I'm hopping back on the wagon dw, and sorry for the weird text-wall, I don't believe I was very helpful lol).
the_procrastinata@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 3y

The tub is still around here.
cherryripesalmoncake@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 3y
I donโt think nutrients in the slow release fertiliser will be affected by steam/sterilising temperatures, theyโre chemicals and not microorganisms.

I am so disappointed, I got a call about a last minute cancellation for my second ADHD assessment appointment but the appointment is for 9am tomorrow and I start work at 8am and wouldn't be able to be off the floor. I cried I'm so disappointed. The current appointment set isn't until November which feels like it's miles away and I am genuinely struggling to get uni stuff done.
